I’ve watched a lot of youtube-vids about football the last month or so. (because i have to stoke my hatred of celebrity-pundits) And so, I’ve watched a lot of ‘analysis’ of various match-ups over the last month.

And one of the things that has struck me, is how the celebrity-pundits invariably ignore or minimize injuries. They often simply never mention the Gurley injury-factor for example. I dont know if its an espn policy of some sort, or if each and every individual celebrity-pundit is simply an uninformed idiot.

I just watched a vid where E.Elliot and Gurley were being talked about and compared, in the context of the upcoming game… and not a single word about Gurley’s injury. And this isnt the first time Ive seen vids like that. I see them all the time. I’m starting to suspect its some kind of sports-tv-policy. Dunno why that would be, though.

But if i were a celebrity-tv-sports-pundit and someone asked me to talk about Gurley, my very first comment would be ‘What about his injury?, What is his injury? What do we know about his injury? Is he 100 percent, 80 percent? Less?….”

Remember the discussions about the offense in 2007? When the Rams OL had gone through a long nightmarish list of injuries and they were basically starting guys they had just signed off the street. And, for many, what that meant was, Bulger was complacent after signing a fat contract and just not playing well.

There is often an analytic amnesia around injuries in football discussions.

Well, ‘maybe’ the celebrity-media has amnesia about injuries. But i have a suspicion that the corporate-suits dont like talk about football-injuries. They probly think talk of injuries should be toned down or avoided if possible. I dont ‘know’ that, but i suspect it. I mean, the pundits job is really to ‘sell’ the game itself. Injuries dont sell the game. Etc, and so forth.

At any rate, i blame Bulger’s ribs for being complacent.
