I think she makes a ton of great points. If you just count up all the things Trump said and did during the campaign, the transition, and now as president, there are literally dozens of actual “scandals” or scandalous things said that would have sunk any other politician in years past, all by themselves. Each one, on its own. It’s beyond surreal that the aggregate didn’t crush him.
In all my years of paying attention to politics, I’ve never seen anyone get away with what Trump gets away with. And it’s not close. It’s a thousand fold worse than anyone else during my lifetime.
This doesn’t say good things about America.
About the only silver lining I can see from all of this? The mainstream media are actually doing a pretty good job of exposing Trump lies, his coverups, the lies and coverups of his staff. If not for them, we’d still have Flynn. We wouldn’t know about the Nunes collusion with the White House. We’d have several cabinet and sub-cabinet officials win nominations, without learning about their massive conflicts of interests . . . like the two corrupt billionaires nominated to head the Army and the Navy, respectively. The list is pretty long for stuff Trump had to alter because he was exposed.
But we need to build on that, and extend this to the duopoly, corporations and the capitalist system itself. They need to be exposed. The capitalist system itself needs to be subject to direct, public analysis, with actual alternatives being discussed as well, rather than all of this always being suppressed.
Of course, corporate ownership of the media makes this less than unlikely, but it needs to be done anyway. So, um, well, it’s a silver lining with another black cloud inside.
