    Denver or Carolina?

    Me?

I don’t like pulling for old man Manning, though that defense is fun to watch.

But, Carolina seems to be the same buch of chippy assholes who jeered at an injured Bradford in 2013.

So by process of elimination, I am left with the hope that Denver knocks some of the tar out of the Panthers.

I think Newton holds up better than Manning, defense being both teams strength.

I don’t care who wins, but I think Carolina is the better team mainly because of Newton. Newton in his prime is better than the current version of Manning.

    Go Panthers!

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

    Sprinkles are for winners.

I wont be watchin it. Doubt if i even
remember what day its being played.

Its all about the Draft and Free agency
    now, for me.

One thing i do know — whichever team wins,
will spawn all kinds of “this is how you build a
super bowl winner” articles/posts. Ya know.
Happens every year. If a team wins the Ring
    with a one-legged-QB and a cross-eyed equipment manager,
then the internetz are flooded with
    “you MUST have a one-legged-QB and a cross-eyed equipment
manager to win — why doesnt Fisher KNOW THAT??!!”

Well because he’s living in the past.

And that’s not the way to do things in the NFL.

Unless of course Fisher wins a superbowl.

Then it will be, “well to win a superbowl you need an sub-standard coach who does not draft well and relies on antiquated approaches and whose entire OL gets injured every year— why doesnt Fisher KNOW THAT??!!”

Margo lived in Italy for years. She makes the best lasagna I ever ett, and does it from the ground up, starting with homemade tomato sauce.

But it takes so long to make (from starting the sauce to the finished product), I can’t bring myself to ask her to do it more than once a year or so.

Lasagna? I like lasagna. And, I am from NE. Southern NE, to be exact.

But still NE. So, I will bet you $5.00 that NE people, do, in fact, know about lasagna. And if $5.00 is too steep for you, a gentleman’s bet will suffice. Winner gets to pick next years QB not named Foles.

Now on to my real dilemma.

I have a grandchild named Payton. Spelled with an A, not an E.

And then, this same family gets a dog this summer, and decides to name it Cam. Real name is Cameron, but it only answers to Cam, for some reason.

So, what are the odds of having to choose between Payton or Cam.

    I’m stuck.

However, I will watch the game. Isn’t there a law requiring every American to watch the Super Bowl?

Denver defense is very good. Top notch.

Carolina OL is very good. Top notch.

    Ah but.

Denver’s defensive strength is the pass rush.

Carolina’s offensive weakness is the OTs, even though they have an overall great line.

Here’s PFF on the Carolina OL (which they rank 2nd overall):

    2. Carolina Panthers (22nd)
    Pass-blocking rank: 4th

    Run-blocking rank: 6th

    Penalties rank: 7th

Stud: If Trai Turner looked good as a rookie, he looked great in his sophomore year. Well worth Pro Bowl contention (and the spot we awarded him), there are a lot of teams wondering just how he was allowed to get all the way to the 92nd pick of the 2014 draft.

Dud: When something went wrong in the running game, Michael Oher was usually at the center of it. He did a good job in pass protection, but no tackle came close to grading as badly as he did in the running game.

Summary: The tackles are the weak spot of this line, but not so weak where it really matters for them (pass protection). The strength is obviously the interior, where Andrew Norwell (building on a successful rookie year), Turner, and Ryan Kalil are amongst the best at their position. They’re a foundation for success on the line.

two teams that have great defenses. carolina with the second ranked rushing offense in the league. denver’s passing offense ranked only 14th in the league.

so you can win with defense and running.

so three of the past four super bowl winners will have been based primarily around defense and the run game.

    that makes me smile.

Agreed, but with a variation. Seattle and Carolina of course have running qbs.

I would not mind Peyton Manning winning the Super Bowl to go out on top. But I like Cam as well, and I am someone who does not mind his endzone stuff and such. So screw the people who have issues with Cam. I say blame your D for letting them score in the first place.

I would have to agree that people in NE know about lasagna. I live in Vermont and I have seen it on menus here.

However, I was born and raised in central Pennsylvania and what New Englanders don’t know about is pan haus, schnitz un kepp or fasnacht.

They don’t even know you’re supposed to eat pork and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes on New Year’s day?!

so you’re saying they should draft dak prescott…

    haha!

seriously though before that was flacco. so it can be done.

interestingly paxton lynch and carson wentz are supposed to have some running ability. so between those two and prescott there are some options there in the draft for running qbs.

One standard that I try to maintain is to at least be able to pronounce what it is that I’m eating… 😉

Pan haus, schnitz un kepp or fasnacht, ok, I’ll admit that I needed to consult the Oracle of Google.

So it would appear that Pan Haus is basically boiling a hogs head, straining off the inedible parts, and then mixing with corn meal and then frying it. I did find this version online, from an individual named Zack, coincidentally from West Virginia. Had to chuckle as I thought to myself “I bet I know a guy from WV that doesn’t boil hogs heads…”

    Pon Haus
    by: Zack Fleming

When we butchered our hogs in Eastern WV, we would always put the scraps, some of hide trimmings, and many organs in the cast iron pots under an open fire and cook until done. Nothing was wasted. This was then strained out and ground into pudding. The broth was then thickened with lots of corn meal and some flour, seasoned with salt and pepper and we added several “scoops” of the pudding meat, and cooked to reduce to an almost mush, then poured into loaf pans and cooled. Sliced and served fried as a breakfast meat usually with King syrup. The pudding was served on top of corn meal pancakes. Many local farmers still make pon haus to this day and at least 2 butcher shops in the Hagerstown, MD area sell to local stores.

Schnitz un kepp – Boiled ham with apples, in a dumpling? Ok, not bad. Forget the pronunciation qualification, I’d take a bite or 2.

Fasnacht – A German Donut? Automatically gets a free pass through the critics turnstile. Donuts are just generally good.

And as far as pork, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes? One of my favorite meals. Didn’t know there was a special day of consumption, but will keep it in mind.

New Years Day, you say. OK, perhaps a special meal celebrating next years NFC West title.

Pan haus is also called scrapple. Generally you eat it for breakfast as a side dish. Some people put maple syrup on it but I don’t eat it that way. I like it fried so the outside is a wee bit crispy but the inside is still soft.

No not really. I can’t think of anything that’s similar to tell you the truth. I love pan haus but I was brought up eating it. I’m Pa Dutch (but not Amish) on my father’s side and my grandmother made all that German stuff. Most people I know don’t care for it.

Speaking of liver pate, I like liverwurst a lot, especially braunschweiger. It’s really good on bread with a spicy mustard.

Is Manning in his last rodeo just a physically lesser but more crafty version of Alex Smith?

My own feeling is that the Rams demolished Manning in 2014, and that Carolina could do the same.

In which case, he’s a drawback not a plus.

I agree, I think the Panthers are going to do the same thing they did to Arizona.

Just like they did to Palmer, Carolina is not going to allow Peyton to get into any type of rhythm.

In Peyton’s defense, he made some nice plays in the first half vs New England but the difference vs New England was Denver’s pass pressure.

For a long time my take on Manning was that he was a great example of the fact that many elite qbs who can keep teams alive and winning by passing alone crashed and burned in the post-season, because having that is not enough. You need something else—a defense, a more balanced offense, etc.

Ironically if Denver wins today he will then be a past-his-prime qb who helped a loaded defensive team win.
