Howdy.
Stats on the defense are not indicative right now because as you say, they suddenly came together in the 2nd half of the Dallas game. Problem with any stats is that they average in the first half of the Dallas game and the games before that. So the numbers will not indicate where they’re really at.
When I get a chance I will compare the numbers from before and after (before = up to the 1st half against Dallas, after = 2nd half against Dallas and since). The difference is startling really.
So right now, with all games averaged together, Rams are 15th on defense and 10th in points allowed. But that doesn’t tell you how they’re really doing. Since the 2nd half of Dallas they are way better than 15th in yards. Points I CAN do easily without work…since the 2nd half of Dallas they’ve allowed 39 points in 3 1/2 games or 7 halves of football. Do all the math and that would be 5.6 points per half (slightly rounded up) and so 11.2 per game. If that were for all 7 games so far, they would rank first by an amazing margin. The 2nd best right now would be Seattle at 15.7 per game. Just going back to 2003, the 2nd best to 11.2 per game would be Baltimore in 2006 at 12.7 a game.
Rams defense played well last year for the initial stretch then fell apart. Even given that they still ranked 9th for all of 2016. GW was good. But Wade is special. IMO no one compares with him.
People worried about Quinn. Would Quinn be his old productive self? Turns out–he’s not. AND it doesn’t matter. Rams are 5th in sacks anyway.
