I watched Straight Outta Compton, the movie about
the NWA (Niggers With Attitude)and the rise of rap music/culture.

I was very impressed. Good movie. Just forces the viewer to think about all kinds of stuff. One of the best movies I’ve seen this year. Ive got no idea how ‘accurate’ it is, though.

You should get the album. Classic gangsta rap album.

It is hard to do a full documentary in like a 2 to 3 hour movie. Ice Cube`s son played him in the movie by the way.

I had ‘more’ strong reactions to that movie than any movie i’ve seen in years. By ‘strong reactions’ i dont just mean positive reactions 🙂
A great deal of what i found ‘interesting’ about the movie was…downright appalling. In some ways the directors vision was appalling to me (i watched the directors commentary). In some ways i found the NWA folks values and goals appalling. But the music was so viscerally powerful. And Paul Giamati was not the best actor in the movie (which is unusual) — the young african-american kids in that movie were just awesome actors. And the Rodney King angle was interesting….etc. Thought-provoking movie.

    yes, great movie…. very underrated.

I think the actor who played “Ice Cube” is actually Ice Cube’s son….. those guys pulled it off well.

not only did that movie capture the racial harassment from the police, it captured how the music evolved, from raw talent to the polished finished production of the music and live performances…..

I thought that Giamati played the band manager pretty good…..

BTW, did you think he did a better job as “Pig Vomit” in Howard Stern’s movie?…. Giamati was great in that role………
