    My daughter who’s gonna be 16 asked me completely out of the blue the other day…

    “Do you know who Bernie Sanders is?”

    Of course I do. I’m on his mailing list (not exclusively, I get emails from dozens of politicians… you fill out ONE petition…), but I SAVE his emails. In that, he’s exclusive.

    “yeah, sweetie. What did you want to know?”

    “Well, what do you know about him?” And she asked me some questions about a few issues and I stopped her right there. She’s a researcher like her old man.

    “Use the google. Find out for yourself. Listen to him for yourself and get your own first impression and THEN we’ll talk. You’re old enough to have your own thoughts on these subjects.”

    I could easily have just regurged all of MY thoughts and potentially swayed her, but… I didn’t want to do that. We’ve had some really awesome and deep conversations on a plethora of topics lately and I’m sure Bernie will be the topic of some lively discussion soon.

    On a related note, I think I’m ready to be done with the “vote for the winner” line of thinking. At least in the primary. I’m voting for Bernie if he’s in the Democratic primary here in Florida. I’d put up a sign for him on my lawn, but until I can get a few things straightened out on my end, I don’t want to antagonize the conservatives who almost certainly are in charge of the HOA. I’d like to be as invisible to them as possible… I mean, there are causes and there are CAUSES, man! HOAs are no joke.

    HOA = Home Owner’s Association

    They are among the best examples of giving up a LOT of liberty for a little security and deserving neither… unfortunately, it’s not like one can opt out in a lot of situations.

    I could have tried to buy elsewhere, but my particular financial situation limited where I could purchase.

    /shrug. There are advantages and disadvantages… but man, the disadvantages just stink…on…ice.

    I won’t vote for him. Not my flavor of independent. And that is what I don’t understand. How can an independent run in a democratic primary? I think it is a good idea for republicans too but why would any party invite an outsider? Would he have to be a write-in?

    This could be a big problem for Bernie, actually. And really, it’s probably more of a state by state problem because each state has their own rules for getting on a ballot. In fact, if the Independent/Democrat question were not even in play–just getting on a ballot is no easy process.

    So, to answer your question–I really don’t know. Yes, he caucuses with the Dems but I don’t think that really means much in the grand scheme of things for getting on ballots.

    I haven’t seen a good answer to this yet.

    Bernie’s one of the few national politicians who I admire. Maybe the only one at this current moment.
