Great games by Goff and Gurley.
Gurley;s YPC won’t show it but still.

September 22, 2017 at 12:01 am #74679joemadParticipantFucking Rams gave me a heart condition tonight…
Shades of 1989 MNF Niner game in Anaheim
I think Gurley got his 100 today
BTW my local SF buddies all texting me Phantom PI call..
FUCK EM!!!!
September 22, 2017 at 12:06 am #74681canadaramParticipantJesus H. Fuck. That’s all I can muster right now.
September 22, 2017 at 12:12 am #74686ZooeyModeratorYeah, 9er fans are going to cry about that PI call. That was a killer for them. It didn’t look egregious on the replay, but we saw only one angle. I don’t care.
Woods and Watkins 100+ yards receiving, Gurley 100 rushing, Goff a very, very good game.
Mid-range is definitely back. Some good things happening.
The downside: Penalties. Tackling. Need another CB.
Pretty happy about 10 days to rest, practice, and get ready for an off-balance Dallas.
Best looking start for the Rams in years. It is officially going to be an entertaining season, and that is a big improvement right there.

Zn’s stats are missing a couple pass TDs. That’s the diff.
September 22, 2017 at 12:33 am #74692InvaderRamModeratori still don’t think it’s clicked for goff yet…
maybe next year.
September 22, 2017 at 12:36 am #74694wvParticipantThat was quite simply the most entertaining RAM performance (not even talking about the ‘game’) I’ve seen since…oh, probly the GSOT days.
I never found the Fisher years ‘entertaining’.
McV’s offense is just flat-out entertaining to me. The design of the offense is just fucking awesome. It reminds me of Bill Walsh’s offenses. Somebody is always open, and often they are not only open they have a shitload of ROOM to roam. Fisher’s receivers usually just seemed to be coming ‘back’ to the ball. McV’s receivers seem to be usually moving forward. At least thats how it seems to me.
This wasnt like playing the Colts — we know SF has a solid NFL Defense. Lots of talent on their D. And it was Goff’s first away game this year.
The loss of a wily veteran starting center is a killer though.
I was pleased to see Woods and Watson targeted.
Am i the only one that doesnt even want Tavon on the field for punts anymore?
I do think he’s actually quite valuable as the jet sweep decoy guy. But I dont want him anywhere near the punt return team anymore.Hyde was so impressive on that goal line play where he fell down and got back up and slammed forward and almost scored.
If SF ever gets a franchise QB they will be good, it looks like to me.
When did the rams decide to run the Giunta defense?
And where did the pass rush go in the third and most of the fourth quarter?
Were they only rushing three a lot of the time?I could talk about all kinds of ‘individual’ plays both good and bad, but to me, the story of the game is the McV offense. The design of the plays. The execution of it. The fluidity of it. The QB as point guard. I love it.
Guess they’ll be drafting a lot of defensive players in the draft.

I brain glitched on that one, sry. I don’t know why I typed in 1 TD. (?) Anyway yes it’s 145.8. I went ahead and edited the original post. Fixed it.

Eisen noted last time they scored 40+ TWICE in a season was 2006. They have already done that.
Differences this season.
1) OL more talent, experience and playing better.
2) Goff* playing with vastly more confidence.
3) Gurley looks more explosive, playing with the kind of burst we saw as a rookie, 6 TDs already matches 2016 total (and at Auburn, making him top 10 pick DESPITE torn ACL).
4) Ridiculously better play calling.
5) Watkins trade, Woods in free agency.* If Goff the real deal and turns franchise around, that couldbe Fisher’s most enduring legacy (also added Donald and Gurley on his watch).
Obviously early, but if McVay can keep this up he will have to be in contention for HC of the year. That would be a nice, if somewhat unexpected confluence for Rams fans, if the youngest HC in league and huge question mark going into the season emerges as a HC/play calling guru.
September 22, 2017 at 1:39 am #74716Eternal RamnationParticipantThe offense rocked the defense sucked and that was the Whiners not the Patriots out there. It was sure fun to watch though. Wade on the sideline looked a little lost. 10 days and we’ll see if he can clean it up a little
September 22, 2017 at 1:40 am #74717InvaderRamModeratorgoff on the season. approximate numbers. 70% completion rate. 10.1 ypa. 800 yards passing. 5 tds. 1 int. 118 passer rating.
defense looks horrible. is sonofbum’s streak gonna end?

September 22, 2017 at 2:44 am #74722HerzogParticipantWell, it’s 1:30 am and I can’t sleep. I am excited by a great many things. Goff man…..GOFF. He just didn’t look like a Quarterback playing on the road. He looked completely at ease. Remarkable. The way his passes move through the air and find the spot where no defender can catch it. He has so many pass completions to guys that are double covered. It’s a special kind of accuracy that I haven’t seen in a long time. I’m not sure when I’ve seen it last.
Goff very clearly is going through his progressions, and a lot of those passes to Gurley are his last read.McVay used Kupp to pull defenders away from Watkins. All I can say about that is….watch out NFL defenses. Y’all are fucked! Mcvay is one smart dude. His attention to detail is going to cause some serious problems for defenses.
I never expected much from this team until game 5. I really didn’t think they’d hit their stride until game 8. That’s about how long I figured it would take for the new offensive and defensive systems to become muscle memory. For this reason, I am still optimistic about the defense. With the shortened training and mini camps, It is simply going to take longer for Wade to teach his thing. I have no doubt that he WILL.
Gurely. Just a beast. BEAST. LOVE HIM.
Special teams is the reason why this game was close. A muffed punt, muffed kickoff and a costly neutral zone encroachment all resulted in extra possessions for the niners. You can rarely win doing that bullshit. Then again, it was a Thursday game.

September 22, 2017 at 2:57 am #74726znModeratorI like how Goff is doing, and you can see virtually every quarter where he makes an amazing throw of one kind or another. Strong enough arm, quick release, throws of every kind, including ones that start out as smoking line drives and end up falling into the target like soft touch passes. We don;t know yet about his comeback in the clutch and win when behind in a close one capacities, but for me that’s all that;s left to find out.
The Rams team strength is the 11-25 yard medium/deep medium range big gainers and his accuracy on those is just ludicrously good. Before this game he completed 7 of 9 of those. If anything after this game the percentage might be better. If he keeps that up or anything like it, that’s unreal. Right now the Rams have a top-notch 9.04 yards per attempt.
September 22, 2017 at 8:12 am #74734wvParticipantI love the way McV does his “sit on the little gatorade bench” thing
while the defense is being shredded.I think it shows great confidence in the Offense.

As for the purported NFL conspiracy, there’s a segment of every fanbase that insists there’s a shadowy conspiracy that’s holding their team back. Fans of the good teams (e.g. Pats, Seahawks, Packers, etc.) are even more vociferous about it.”

If I’m a 9er fan, after I get over the loss, the thing that’s going to bug me a lot longer is the realization that Jared Goff isn’t a bust, and could well haunt the 9ers for a decade.
Tavon Austin is less valuable to this team than Amp Lee was to the GSOT. There are 13 more games for him to find a useful role. The jet sweep is nice…but somebody else could do that for 1/10th the salary.
I miss Janoris Jenkins. He would have been a better investment than Austin.
Donald looked better than the Washington game. But I felt like the announcers were gushing over him last night because announcers have their “Drool Points” on a 3 x 5 card. I am happy to see these other DL playing well. That’s the really good news. I don’t know what’s going on up front, but I’m concerned it may the LBs. I’m waiting for the tape watchers to give me something.
That was an important win. A loss there would have been devastating, against the crappy 9ers – Again! – and after surrendering a lead they should never have lost in the first place. 2-1 is much, much, much better than 1-2 with a division loss to a bad team they lost both games to last year.
And…as I said before…this is almost like a bye week coming up. They won the short week thing, and now they have time to rest and get some stuff worked out on defense.
Exciting game. Rough 4th quarter. Arrow definitely pointing up, especially on offense.

Go 9ers!
Hail Satan!Yeah, we were taking the other day about the longevities of QBs nowadays. Goff is only 22. With QBs playing at a high level into their late 30’s, the Rams could be set at QB for the next 16 years or so.
September 22, 2017 at 2:27 pm #74747PA RamParticipantGotta get to work so some quick reactions:
I listened on my Gamepass to most of the game at work and caught the last of the third quarter and all of the forth on television when I got home.
AGONIZING to watch the end of that game. The Rams TRIED so hard to give it away. Somehow they failed so–that’s good.
The defense needs work, obviously.
Special teams were a disaster. I really wish Cooper would just stay in the endzone more.
Injuries are a concern.
But I LOVED it. Love what McVay is doing with this team. What a difference an offensive coach can make. They did everything right this off season. And it shows.
What fun–and what a fun team to watch.
I’m loving 2-1 right now. I don’t know what they’ll do the rest of the year but they sure are fun to watch.
This makes my whole week better.
No negativity or nitpiking from me right now–just loving it.
This is fun.

Yes!
He seems to have free range to take the ball out anytime he wants. Unless he’s on the brink of turning into Devin Hester, I’d prefer that he always stay in the endzone and just take the 25 yard line. On that fumble he really was holding that ball out there right up until he was holding it no more.

Well, an offensive coach, a #1 WR, a #2 WR, a #3 WR, and a LT can make.

And a not so green, “over being a rookie on a bad team” type 2nd year qb ready to stabilize his talented game.

September 22, 2017 at 7:29 pm #74765InvaderRamModeratorwhat really astounds me is that he’s not getting his yards by just dumping it off to his running backs. or on short safe passes to his wide receivers. he’s attacking downfield. aggressive. i’d say one of the more aggressive passers in the league. of course this is just through three games.
his ypa is at 10.1. that’s obscene. those are like aaron rodgers numbers. in fact, the only other players above 9 ypa in the league so far are sam bradford, matt ryan, alex smith, and tom brady. and the youngest of those fellas is sam at 29 years old (soon to be 30 in november). the rest are in their 30s or in brady’s case 40. goff is just 22 years old right now. soon to be 23.
now obviously the competition hasn’t been the stiffest for goff yet. and he probably can’t sustain this level of production. but this guy is 22 years old with 10 games of starting experience. to me it just seems ridiculous.
it’s just a perfect storm of scheme, players, and catching everyone off guard i would assume.
i’m just curious as to how those numbers look at the end of the season. that’s the number i’ll be paying more attention to than anything else when it comes to jared.
