Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh said in an interview that he does not believe the U.S. intelligence community proved its case that President Vladimir Putin directed a hacking campaign aimed at securing the election of Donald Trump. He blasted news organizations for lazily broadcasting the assertions of U.S. intelligence officials as established facts…. see link

He is saying exactly what i have been saying. Doesn’t mean I’m right or he’s right, but Hersh is usually given a lot of weight on this board.

Yeah, I’ve been following a lot of Greenwald and Scahill and I just don’t buy this Russia narrative.

And Hersch makes too much sense.

To question the legitimacy of CIA nonsense in the waning days of the Obama presidency is NOT to endorse Trump.

Then again, as PA pointed out… it’s tough to get some people past that Trump can do anything right just like it was impossible to convince some people that Obama could do anything right.

I’m regularly engaging in watching those “restore your humanity” tearjerker videos.

    I need them.

Otherwise, I just retreat into rooting for Giant Meteor with reckless abandon.

    And, I wasn’t persuaded.

There’s something in the Russia story. It’s more than just the way it got framed, which is that dems made it up to whine. See I don’t care about that and it’s not the only (let alone the right) way to frame it. Nor was hacking the Dems (and republicans) the only aspect of the story.

There’s a lot find out still and this will probably be a slow and lingering thing.

When I really think about it, I really think it’s both, like I said to Billy in another thread.

I think Clinton and the DNC and the media really colluded to elevate Trump and Cruz in a concerted effort to hand the election to Clinton.

At some point, AFTER Trump had been given $2B in free media, I think the Russians saw they could possibly install someone friendly to them.

So, I don’t believe that this was all part of some master plan on Russia’s part. I do think it’s entirely possible after Trump got beyond the DNC and the media’s control that the Russians very likely took advantage of an opportunity to put someone in the White House much more friendly to them than Clinton.

But, as Herschel notes, reprinting what the CIA gives the media, just because they aren’t Trump doesn’t mean it’s reliable. Requires doing the work which is why I keep saying that journalists are only doing actual journalism part time except in rare instances.
