on the second to last offensive series of the 3rd quarter against the chiefs, wells hurt his elbow on a failed 3rd and long pass attempt. on the very next offensive series, the last series of the 3rd quarter, jake long went down on the first play. from that point on grob (lt), person (lg) and jones (c) finished the game and all did pretty darn well, especially person imo. granted, the chiefs were up 20-7 at that point, and soon to be up 27-7, but it didn’t look like chiefs defenders quit or put it into cruise control, i.e. it looked like the trio of grob, person and jones were facing legitimate competition. barksdale, as most know, had his worst game of the season, but i’m gonna give him a semi pass given he played next to joseph most of the game, after saffold went out with 11 minutes remaining in the second, and joseph just plain sucked, he did barksdale no favors, especially on inside pressure. joseph had a great game 1 against the vikes but has pretty much stunk it up since. also worth mentioning is wells was having probably his best game of the season before he went down, which makes two good outings in a row after stinking it up in most of his other starts.
both saffold and wells are listed as probable against the niners but, should wells go down again, i sure wouldn’t mind seeing if jones can continue to play well at center, for a second straight game. also, assuming saffold is good to go, i would much rather see him at rg and person at lg as opposed to saffold at lg and joseph at rg. person looks intriguing, and wouldn’t it be great if he surfaced as a decent guard for the rams after kicking around the league for a few seasons? anyway here’s a look at grob (lt), person (lg) and jones (c) in action against the chiefs:
