In light of that, it’s interesting to compare the new qbs (drafted from 2011 to 2015) whose teams are more balanced or run heavy.

Carolina (1st in rushing attempts, 11th on offense)
Cincinnati (7th in rushing attempts, 15th on offense)
Seattle (3rd in rushing attemptsm 4th on offense)
Minnesota (4th in rushing attempts, 29th on offense) (an exception)
Tampa (8th in rushing attempts, 5th on offense)

    *
Washington (15th in rushing attempts, 17th on offense)

    *
Indianapolis (21st in rushing attempts, team 28th on offense)
Tennessee (28th in rushing attempts, 30th on offense)
Oakland (29th in rushing attmpts, 24th on offense)
Jacksonville (30th in rushing attempts, 18th on offense)
Miami (32nd in rushing attempts, 26th on offense)

The Minnesota exception is interesting. Teddy Bridgewater did ok, but there is a huge discrepancy in pass yards and QB rating between him and the QB’s on those other top running teams, which is the reason why they were ranked 29th in total offense.

I can see the Rams under Goff this season being a lot like Minnesota. The parallels between the two are striking. Both feature young highly-touted college QBs, an offense built around a premier RB and exceptional defenses. If the Rams can just get efficient, mistake free play from the offense they could probably win 9 or 10 games like Minnesota did last year.

A run heavy offense is a given with the rookie QB and the first tier running back. However, in my opinion, the key to the success is play calling…exploiting mismatches as well as the talent (see Austin, Kendricks) beyond Gurly.

We haven’t seen that with the Rams since 06.
