They liked Shelton and wanted to bring him back. As the story says, they weren’t going to wait or pass up a clear opportunity to sign Jackson if all they had to do was move Steve. Think about it this way. Now your center and guard are both locked in next three years for a combined $20M APY.</p>

They asked about Hunter 2 years ago at 27. I noted cost and age would be a huge factor/sliding scale as well as how the markets eventually play out at that position…don’t think he was someone they seriously considered for both factors if he stays near top of market. We’ll see how other layers of FA + draft shake out and even if he dips significantly but they’ve committed to being real young (minus Aaron) on that side of ball.

i’m guessing hunter isn’t going to happen.

i do think a guy like chase young might be worth looking into.

The 49ers took a test run with him, and parted ways. They signed Leonard Floyd instead.

Floyd is reliable, but not spectacular, and he’s a lot older than Young.

Maybe Floyd is just a better scheme fit than Young, and Young might fit the Rams better than the 49ers, but I would be wary. And the Rams probably don’t have the cap space anyway. They still have to resign one or more of Witherspoon, Johnson, Fuller.

I’ve alluded to this but unless something dramatic changes they were never looking at “big names” at OLB but instead cost/age as a sliding scale, and yes I agree huge huge need and hole there (and corner). I smell another defensive heavy draft en route (plus later waves of FA).

    Love to see it.

The game is won by keeping your QB’s jersey clean, and making the opposing QB bleed all over his.

Chris Long.  Always so articulate.   I wish the Rams experience had been more fun.    Ah well.
