I sat down with Rams DC Raheem Morris – not really to talk about the high expectations of which he is reminded each day.

Instead, we considered fish bowls, and paper-cuts, and why the moments nobody notices might make him the right person for this task.

The more I thought about it, the more I think this is also a Leonard Floyd story in a way. I won’t speak for him obviously but wonder what is possible for us when we perhaps feel like we are really seen (starting last year with Floyd)? How do good coaches know who needs that?

Sean McVay says DL A’Shawn Robinson is on track to play Sunday night. He expects RB Sony Michel to also be ready, FWIW, but won’t know for sure until they put the game plan in Weds/Thurs.

My guesses: any ‘restructure’ of Safford’s contract will include an extension. And any cap relief the Rams get will be in 2022 – the final year of his current contract – rather than in 2021 (since they already worked around his $20M cap hit for this season).

Stafford’s cap hit in 2022 is $23M: $12.5M salary, $10M roster bonus, and $.5M workout bonus

Let’s say Stafford gets a 4 year, $120M extension. (Note: that’s what Russel Wilson got in his contract extension …)

The Rams could roll that $23M into the deal and essentially make it 5 years, $143M starting with the 2022 season. Maybe give him a $50M bonus just so the math is easy?

    2022 $2M salary (plus $10M prorated signing bonus = $12M cap hit)
    2023 $20M salary (plus $10M prorated signing bonus = $30M cap hit)
    2024 $22M salary (plus $10M prorated signing bonus = $32M cap hit)
    2025 $24M salary (plus $10M prorated signing bonus = $34M cap hit)
    2026 $25M salary (plus $10M prorated signing bonus = $35M cap hit)

Doing Stafford’s ‘restructure’ like this would reduce his 2022 cap hit by $11M.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2021/09/06/rams-odds-betting-line-bears-week-1/

The Chicago Bears are by no means one of the worst teams in the NFL entering Week 1, but the oddsmakers see a pretty big talent gap between them and the Los Angeles Rams. According to Tipico, the Rams open the week as 7.5-point home favorites over the Bears.

Looking at the other Week 1 odds, no team is favored by more points than the Rams against the Bears. The Bucs are also favored by 7.5 points over the Cowboys, as are the 49ers over the Lions.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2021/09/07/rams-sean-mcvay-matthew-stafford-learned-coach/

McVay says his collaboration with Stafford on offense has helped him as a coach and that he’s learned a lot from his new quarterback.

“Yeah, it has definitely helped me,” McVay said this week. “I don’t know if you want to talk about collaboration or just our ability to communicate in the way that he sees it. He has got such a great lens that he sees the game through and I’ve been able to learn a lot from him, as I know of some of our other coaches and his teammates. So, he has got such a great inventory of things to be able to draw on, and that’s a really beneficial thing for our offense and especially for me.”
