Rams (expectedly) weren’t aggressive in FA’s first and early second waves, will now draft, then (within reason) plug space with UDFAs and cheap vets who don’t affect comp math in late waves of FA. Setup year.

Found while researching story: In “splash plays” (PBU, sk, FF, TFL) Cobie Durant is ranked low. This is where data needs context. Most of his snaps were end of season. What ground did he gain? Durant ranks No. 12 among all DBs in snaps/splash play, min. 250 snaps qualifying.

alen Ramsey is No. 1 in overall splash plays (46) and, kind of astoundingly, No. 7 in snaps per splash play without any qualifiers…with 1,038 snaps, over 100 more than the next highest player in the T15 in that category.

My personal peak for NFL helmets is 1987. The helmet changes after this season and into the mid/late 90s were all a downgrade imo. Chargers (88), Falcons, Jets (90), Patriots (93), 49ers, Eagles (96), Bucs, Broncos, Dolphins (97) and Titans (99).

Being a general manager means getting to do things your way, assuming you don’t have an owner meddling in the plan everyday. For Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes, that means that he gets to run a draft war room in the style and manner of his preference and this year he revealed that he doesn’t look at a depth chart before making his picks. Holmes would prefer to not be swayed by “needs” when making respective picks.

The former Rams director of college scouting revealed at his year’s owners meetings that he’s seen other teams do that without having as much success as they should have.

Holmes has only ever worked for the Rams before being hired by the Lions.

“I just think you can make a lot of mistakes with that,” Holmes said. “I’ve been in regimes in the past that have had a depth chart in the draft room, and I’ve just never been a fan of that.”

Later adding, “When you’re approaching the draft and you’re just looking to fill those question marks, fill those holes, I do think that that can equate to some mistakes.”
