I dunno.  If i ‘had’ to play one version of the game, best I could do ….Donald is the best DT of his era.

    .

i think what’s significant.  and yeah these discussions are kind of dumb.  how can you really compare across different eras?  but what i think is significant is that it’s gotten to the point where you can’t really compare donald to anyone in his era.  that’s how insanely great he’s been.  and so now it’s to the point where you have to compare across different eras and different positions.  there’s only one rams player that I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN that i can say that about and that’s marshall faulk.

that’s how singular donald has been these past eight years.  it’s been a pleasure to watch.

And to top it all off, he gets into an NFC title game and then a superbowl, and in both cases, he makes the game clinching play on 4th down. Twice. In two games. Plus of course in the superbowl he made the 3rd and 1 play that set up the game clinching play, by literally pulling the runner back to prevent him from getting the 1st down.

We all know he is great, but…2 game clinching plays on 4th down to seal the win in both a title game then a superbowl?

If I wrote that as a script before the season, everyone would have said nice…but, your wish fulfillment scenario at the end there is a little far-fetched.

i would also add to that in an era where offense is so bent towards offense.  you have possibly 10 qbs who are seen as great.   putting up numbers to the point where it’s hard to parse out who the best is.  same with wide receivers.  i mean outside of kupp’s season (which is just ridiculous but that’s another discussion) it’s hard to discern among the many talented players on the field.  same with tight ends.  we’re in an era where athletic pass catching tight ends is now the norm.  but then is the converse true?  is it easier then for a player as great as donald to stand out amongst his peers?  if it was bent more toward defense, would we then see a glut of players stand out to the point where it would be hard to pick out donald from a group of seven or eight?

also.  to a degree you can compare different positions…  i mean.  i can confidently say that aaron donald is the best player on the rams…  i can confidently say aaron donald is better than jimmy garoppolo.  hahahahaha!

seriously though.  it is hard to compare across positions.  but the fact that you’re even considering that argument with donald says a lot about him.
