The St. Louis Rams will be playing on Monday Night Football this week against the San Francisco 49ers, and they’ll be rocking an alternate helmet design for the game.
On Saturday, the Rams revealed that they’ll be using this alternate helmet design for Monday night’s game on Instagram. The blue and yellow helmets were used in 1999, back when the team was called the “Greatest Show on Turf” thanks to their impressive offense.
The Rams will honor members of the 1999 team at halftime on Monday night. The 1999 team went 13-3 in the regular season before winning the Super Bowl thanks to players like Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk and Torry Holt.
According to Nate Scott from USA Today in September, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were not allowed to use their alternate helmets because of a rule that doesn’t allow NFL teams to switch helmets midway through the year.
Fortunately, the Rams won’t have to deal with this policy. ESPN’s Nick Wagoner reported that the Rams use the same helmets every week, but change the decals on a weekly basis, so the alternate helmets are good to go for Monday night.
