Rams source: “Likely” Rob Boras becomes permanent offensive coordinator

The Los Angeles Rams last week asked for permission to talk to Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, presumably as a prelude to a Shurmur/Rams reunion. Shurmur spent 2009-2010 as the Rams offensive coordinator, and the assumption was they were looking to reel him back in for the same position.

The theory seemed a bit presumptuous, considering the Rams seemed comfortable lifting the interim off of Rob Boras’ title and making him the permanent offensive coordinator. Boras, you’ll remember, replaced Frank Cignetti as the Rams OC late last season, prompting a bit of an offensive awakening and a 3-1 Rams surge to end the season. The Rams averaged 22.5 points with Boras coordinating the offense after averaging less than 16 points over the first 12 games under Cignetti.

In any event, it’s all moot now. The Minnesota Vikings late Saturday hired Shurmur as an offensive assistant coach. And a Rams’ source on Sunday said it’s “likely” Boras will be the permanent offensive coordinator

i’m wondering if it’s going to be hard to hire coaches until after they’ve settled into los angeles. i mean they don’t even know where the training facilities are going to be yet.

Nothing finalized yet, but #Rams considering Oxnard as a short-term home base. Among a few other locations

Or until Fisher has an extension.

I’m glad it’s Boras. Continuity with coordinators is what this team needs. All things being the same, even Case Keenum could win a lot of games next year

Well, I’m not sure Boras is a good coordinator yet but as people have said, with Fisher in the last season of his contract it was going to be hard to get a proven coordinator. They should have extended Fisher.

It really feels like Fisher’s only choice is “in-house” hirings for this position.

Did they talk to Shurmer? Did he turn them down? It feels like the last time when they went with Cignetti. I mean–if he really loved Boras why not just come out from the start and say: “We have out guy–we’re happy with Rob.” Why a drawn out search with names being tossed about only to go back to square one anyway?

I just think either these guys don’t want to be under Fisher’s thumb or they don’t like the way he handles assistants(they take the fall)or they don’t like the situation but for whatever reason–he doesn’t seem able to bring a guy in.

So just embrace the guy you have and know are going to be stuck with and move on.

It’s probably better for his confidence.
