Jack look for previous posts, particularly on a day like this. I beat you by 1 minute. But this time I will move mine here. In fact we had 3 Atwell threads up. When that happens I have a lot of cleaning up to do.

This is a head scratcher. We need a C, a CB, a LB, DE, OT, but we draft a WR? Don’t get it. Does McVay want to keep Stafford upright? Jeesh.

    Gadget WR?

I’m sure they could have traded out and gotten him in the 5th?

I feel we wasted the pick. I would rather have had a center or cb.

Humphrey should have been our pick at 57.

Love his speed, but this is a dumb pick in the 2nd round, especially when the Rams have so few. You just don’t pick a player this high who won’t see the field outside gadget stuff. And at 155 pounds, with very small hands and short arms, he’s not going to get the 50/50 stuff, which they do need. I’m also worried he’s a fumble waiting to happen at his size.

I could almost see it if they didn’t already have Woods, Kupp, Jefferson and Jackson, but they do. The Rams don’t have a problem at wideout. They don’t even lack depth. With Jackson, they don’t lack speed . . . and if GPS is a true measure, Jefferson is speedy too.

They needed O-line or ILB at this spot, especially. Or, a freakish edge guy like Ossai from Texas.

I’ve gone from thinking McVay and the FO were geniuses, to thinking they’ve lost their freakin’ minds this offseason.

Gotta hope they find value as the draft progresses, but this is not an auspicious start.

I don’t like the pick but,

He weighed himself today and was up to 160 lbs.

He only had two drops last season per the ESPN team.

Mel had him in his next 5 to go (was at #4) before we picked him so he probably wasn’t a big reach.

I’m remembering all the times McVay call the play where Avery ran a sweep and Gurley went up the middle. The new QBs strength is reading defenses, and we likely run this play more often again.

We did need another speed guy IMO.

I can understand the pick, even though I don’t like it any better than I liked the Avery or Candidate picks.

    We need to protect Stafford.

I know the tautology is tautological, and all, and teams draft the guys they like, and not the players they don’t like.

But if speed was their aim, why not Anthony Scwartz? He’s faster than Tutu, and 6′.

I wouldn’t have gone wideout at all, but Scwartz has Olympic speed. Tutu is just fast, and his vert and broad are pedestrian.

We will Jack, lots of goo Oline left in this draft and I don’t think the current Oline depth we have is that far off.

Best guess, Schwartz looks like more of a straight line fellow and tutu has more wiggle.
I’m thinking of those jet sweeps.

Also sounds like tutu has a chip on his shoulders, which is in his favor.

    I’m in shock.

I dont wanna over-react, and who knows the future,
but this just smacks of arrogance to me.
Like McV thinks he can create all these big plays with this guy.

But how many 155 lb players have made a difference
    in the NFL?

The vast weight of history is against
    this.

    WTF.

The Tutu Atwell pick spells the end of either Cooper Kupp or Robert Woods will be be playing their last season, this year.

I think it’s more likely Desean Jackson only has one season with them.

It seems impossible that an adult’s legs could look so thin and frail. Are we sure that this picture hasn’t been altered or maybe that it was taken at such a strange angle to make his legs look like a canoe paddles that have had both paddles broken off so that only the shafts remain? I really can’t get over that the Rams made a tiny WR their second round choice when such strong center prospects were still available.

Weird. I replied once to the photos that zn posted and it automatically disappeared. So I quickly put together a different reply. Now I see that that my initial post, the one that disappeared, has shown up as the most recent post. *shrug*

If a post disappears, never worry about it. It means our overly aggressive anti-spam system didn’t like a link in it. That only means that it marks it out as “pending.” I check constantly for pending posts to “approve.” So if a post disappears, either say something by using the chat icon in the lower right corner (click my name and use that as a private message system) or just sit tight because as I said I check regularly, and find them. It;s all a pain in the ass but, it’s still better than to be a target of spam posts. Last time that happened we were getting 1 or 2 every 10 minutes.

Atwell’s got some good things to him. He has some things that can help us even as a rookie.

First his raw speed is ridiculous. The guy separates like crazy. He’ll get free releases in this offense from slot or trips or jet motions. With a free release there aren’t going to be a lot of DBs that can cover him even at the NFL level. His speed and suddenness are that good.

Second he can actually adjust to a ball in flight which is critical for a guy with as much speed and as little catch radius as he has. Small guys make it harder on the QB who has to fit the ball in tighter windows. So when they have good adjustment instincts to a ball in flight they can make up for that a bit. Unlike a guy like Tavon for example who never could judge a ball in flight when Tutu gets past a DB all Stafford has to do is float it up and let him run under it.

But he’s gonna be tough for defenses to stop because if you focus Tutu then guys like Kupp and Woody will eat your lesser DBs.

I get all the concerns with his pick and I share them but he might very well impact this offense in a big way. I’m not proclaiming this guy as a big hit or anything. But the truth is in the middle as always. He might be too small for the NFL. Or maybe he’s got enough dog in him to use those strengths to carve out a role.

Thanks for the explanation, zn. We’ve had a lot of weird things happening with the wifi in our house so I just assumed that it was something on my end.

As far as the second round of pictures go….hoo boy…he’s so tiny. I don’t care how fast he is, I am going to have to go into some heavy duty self deception to convince myself that this pick isn’t so bad. Pre-draft I had read about the Rams supposedly having some interest in Atwell, but I just assumed that he’d be a potential day 3 target or maybe at worst he’d be one of their 3rd round picks. I realize that the front office knows waaaayyyyy more about this stuff than I do and I rarely get too riled about what I perceive as surprising draft picks, but this pick really annoys me.

maybe he’s got the same enzyme deficiency that goff has.
