another thing on akers’ 10 yard split. and just how fast it was.

here’s an article by frelund on nfl.com. the fastest 10 yard split she’s recorded since 2003 is 1.45 by dk metcalf. i have others list his 10 yard split as 1.48. but let’s go with 1.45. akers was 1.47. that’s fast.

    1.45 seconds
D.K. Metcalf’s 10-yard split of his 4.33-second 40-yard dash clocked in at 1.45 seconds. This is the fastest 10-split by any combine runner in my database (starting in 2003). For some context, this is faster than Julio Jones’ 1.50 10-yard split and 4.42 second 40-yard dash and they are similar heights: Metcalf checked in at 6-3 3/8 and 228 pounds, while Jones was 6-2 3/4 and 220 pounds. I don’t mean to suggest they are the same; I am only saying that results like Metcalf’s help generate more positive momentum, countering his injury history at Ole Miss.

not that the 10 yard split automatically sets akers up for success. but. going back to metcalf. he had a pretty good season after a largely unimpressive college career. wasn’t even considered the best wr on his own team by some.

had a promising rookie season though. started 15 of 16 games for the seahawks.

58 catches for 900 yards and 7 tds.

in the playoffs he broke the rookie record playoff debut with 160 yards on 7 receptions and a td.

so i’ll hold out some hope. rams coaches and scouts seem to love and praise this guy’s attitude and character. so there’s that as well. and he couldn’t ask for a better coach than mcvay on offense.

from PFF: Ranking the NFL’s 32 starting running backs by elusiveness
    https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-ranking-32-starting-running-backs-elusiveness

    ROOKIES

    1. CAM AKERS, LOS ANGELES RAMS
Making people miss wasn’t an added bonus for Akers at Florida State. It was a necessity while running behind one of the worst offensive lines in college football. Comparing college numbers to the NFL is always tricky, but we’ve seen that missed tackle numbers and stats like yards after contact translate well to the NFL. Last season, Akers forced a missed tackle on 32% of his touches and averaged nearly 4 rushing yards after contact per attempt. He’ll likely have to put those skills to use again as a rookie behind a Rams’ offensive line that still has some questions.
