Rams offered more than two 1st-round picks for Brian Burns

It was reported last week that the Los Angeles Rams offered two first-round picks for Carolina Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns – a hefty price to pay for someone with just a year and a half left on his contract. However, their offer actually included more than just the two first-rounders.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, they offered the Panthers two firsts and a second-round pick for Burns, but Carolina declined to trade him. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones specified that the first-round picks were in 2024 and 2025, while the second-rounder was in the upcoming 2023 draft.

Seems crazy to me, on both sides. That’s waaay too much for the Rams to offer for Burns. Keep your picks and find your own pass-rusher for a third of the cost. And it’s not as if Burns has produced at elite levels yet, though he does have a lot of potential. But the same could be said for those future 1st rounders.

I have no idea why Carolina turned them down, other than, perhaps, thinking the picks would be too late in the round. They may have been waiting for teams more likely to lose a lot of games to make offers, etc.

Oh, well. Easy for me to be critical. Gotta be tough to be an actual GM. And there is that Super Bowl win still lingering in the air.
