Okay, how many times this year has the defense choked when the Rams had a lead in the final minutes and it’s up to them to preserve the win?
Seattle. Rams go up 9-3 at the start of the 2nd half, and the defense holds on to a win for nearly 2 quarters.
Tampa. The Bux are down by 5 with a little over 2 minutes left, and the Rams defense does not let them score after the offense had punted from the 5.
Arizona. Rams take the lead with just over 2 minutes left, and then the defense seals the win with an INT.
Detroit. Offense is on fire, but the defense cannot shut the Lions down in the final minutes. Lions break a tie and go up by 3. That’s on the defense.
Jets. Rams take the lead with 6:52 left in the half, and the defense preserves the win with an Ogletree INT.
Miami. Rams have a 10-0 lead late in the 4th, and the defense fails to preserve the win, and in fact loses by handing drives to them with stupid penalties.
So they were in that situation 6 times this year, and the defense pulls it off as opposed to choking 4 times. Not good enough but not that bad.
AND YET, if you read around the net, the Rams D is often being portrayed as regular chokers with severe mental toughness issues.
If you look at the 4:2 ratio, they come through more often than not.
So why do do many Rams fans only remember the trauma of the recent failure and can;t seem to recall that 67% % of the time, when the Rams have a lead late, the defense has been preserving those wins. Again, not good enough, but still not bad.
