Very winnable game, but the miscues reached critical mass and the Rams came up just short.

Looked like a Coming of Age game for the team until….

Sorry but it was one of worst officiated games I ever seen next to the game in NFL Championship in 1974

Sometimes you see a hard fought close game where both teams show such heart and make so many heroic plays at key times that it really seems a shame that either one has to lose. Then there are those games where both teams are so inept, sloppy, and self-destructive that it seems wrong to declare either team a winner. This was the latter. Both teams were painful to watch. The officials were worse.

I don’t know where my last post ended up–it disappeared in the merger but I will repeat it to infinity–if need be–that’s just how I am.

    The last play sucked.

Throw the ball to the corners or run it. Don’t even consider it an option to put the ball in the middle. Things bounce around in there–bad things happen–defenders are hidden. Didn’t like it. You did not HAVE to get the T.D. there.

    Bad call. Poorly executed.

It wasn’t a good play call, true. But, Hill looks like he just didn’t take care of the ball there. His first job is to make sure he doesn’t turn it over, because you have a tie if you do nothing.

    Defense gave up 410 yards.
Matthews rushed 12 times for 105 yards.
Hill two INTs and the fumble.

Yeah weird. When I merged 2 beginning threads there were only 3 posts combined–Nittany, me, Zooey. You hadn’t posted yet. Maybe you posted just as it merged and that disappeared it (?). Anyway my apologies AND this is exactly the kind of dumbass bad luck that got the Rams today.

I think the Chargers OC called a good game. He knew how to take advantage of the Rams aggressiveness and blitzing by countering with screens and draws.

    On the INT

    =====================
    Laram
when Benny motioned out into the formation he turns the lb around and he has an easy walk in TD.

Frontside the safety was right in the flat, he lined up there and just squatted.

Hill knows he blew that badly!!!

The passing efficiency that qb’s have against this defense is just miund boggling to me.

Plus the run D sprung a leak again.

Like I said during the week, I’m not drinking the kool-aid on this D yet!!

    On Greg Robinson
    ============================
    Laram

Once again he gave up a blindside hit on his qb where he was blocking his man, then inexpicably lets him go.

I’m not talking about the type of error where its obvious its a mental error, like last week against Ware.

This could be a mental error to but its not as obvious. Its like he just quits.

He’s engaged, then lets the guy go right to the qb.

That costs the Rams 7 points right there, when there was no discernable reason for it to occur.

    Just nuts.

The Rams have a lot of talent but are deficient in intelligence. This has to be the dumbest team to ever wear the horns. It’s kinda strange we don’t see sweeps or screens anymore. I am wondering if TA’s problems are he can’t learn the offense ?Cook must really be hurting(back) so much though it affects his thinking. The officiating was horrible as usual, how many TD’s nullified ? It boggles the mind.Barksdale’s hands to the face did they even look at Quinn’s side of the field? It seems like whenever Fisher complains about something the refs lock on to the Rams to prove Fisher wrong.1st and Goal why is Stacy even on this team, he is the perfect back for those conditions.JL was awful in coverage

The way the second half went I was shocked the Rams were still in this to the last minute.

Two decent defenses but look….Hill vs Rivers? Rivers is incredible. Can’t believe GW ran all those blitzes. Rivers ain’t Manning at this point in his career…he loves the challenge and blitz and the potential hit with weird timing. I didn’t get some of those D calls.

I’m not going to be negative about this one. It was excruciating for sure. But one thing that I have been waiting for in regards to the Rams is a team that can compete. A team that, when the latter half of the fourth quarter comes around, has given itself a chance to win the game. They did that. In the first few weeks of this very season, if the Rams had committed the kinds of mistakes that they did yesterday, they would have lost by four touchdowns. They would have caved. They’re not the team I’m hoping for, but they’re a lot closer then they were just a couple of months ago.

If we can keep contunuity with our coordinators…. This team should be a powerhouse next year. Then again…. That’s how I felt last year and after Spags second year. If this team is not a powerhouse next year… I might have to hurt somebody

Ronde Barber & Fox got both of those calls wrong. The TD to Britt that was called back was correctly called on GRob. Fox focused on Barksdale, but it looked like GRob clearly had and held on to Liuget’s (I think) face mask.

The Tavon punt return was also butchered by Barber. The penalty flag was already on the field when Fox and Barber highlighted McFadden’s phantom hold. Plus, the refs put the ball at the spot of the Rams foul–the Chargers 40. The McFadden hold that Barber tried to highlight happened on the Rams side of the field. You’d need the coach’s film to see if McFadden really did hold about the Charger’s 40.

The zebras have sucked this year for the Rams. But I don’t think either of those calls were bad.

I’d love to see Stacy bouncing off guys and breaking tackles inside the 5 or 10 too. But Benny is really good out of the backfield. In another post LARam already talked about Benny being open if Hill gives him and his route another fraction of a second.
