The Cowboys have nearly $700 million committed to the players on their current roster

    Cork Gaines

No team has more money committed to the players on their current roster than the Dallas Cowboys, whose players collectively have contracts worth $US680.8 million, according to Spotrac, more than $US30 million more than any other team and nearly twice as much as the Oakland Raiders ($US385.2 million).

Things looks a little different if we just consider guaranteed portions of contracts. The Cowboys come in at No. 5 in the NFL with $US263.9 million in guaranteed money committed to players, 38.8% of the total. The Kansas City Chiefs lead the way in total guaranteed ($US297.0 million) while the St. Louis Rams top the league in per cent-guaranteed (46.7%).

The New England Patriots have the least amount in guaranteed contracts at $US145.1 million, just 35.2% of their total while the Pittsburgh Steelers have the lowest percentage of guaranteed contracts at 29.1%.

Personally, that graph does not tell me a lot. Maybe I can see a rough correlation with cap space. What does it mean to anyone?

Me? Well first I think it’s just a business guy who isn’t asking real football questions, so I don’t know if he knows what it means. But interpreting it myself, just as a Rams fan, I think it says the Rams have more open space down the line.

So for example Dallas 2017 v. Rams 2017.

    Rams committed cap space 2017: 75+ M
    Dallas committed cap space 2017: 132+ M

Patriots only 26.5 million above last place Raiders yet Super bowl champs and 99 million less than the Rams.

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

    Sprinkles are for winners.

This proves that every team should sign Bellichick and draft Brady. IMO. ss

    BTW, Patz 2017 expended cap space = 87+ M.

    I think it means

    Intelligently allocated resources win championships.

    If I may kid around?

Intelligently allocated resources wins accounting contests.

Hiring Billichick and drafting Brady wins championships.

Teams that did not go as spendthrift as the Patz also won championships.

Including New Orleans (2nd on the list), Green Bay (5th), and Baltimore (18th).

Belichick is a resource. He could have been hired away but Kraft paid him. Seattle was quite low on the list too. If you wish to dance on a pin about this I’ll say The most intelligently allocated resources in 2014 wins championships. And absolutely no edible cake for you. I’m not kidding. To the closet with you stand in the corner nose on the corner light off door closed.
