Schonka said last year that GRob would have huge growing pains and would not be as good as Matthews and Lewan in his first year, if ever.

Robinson proved the part about Matthews and Lewan wrong pretty quickly…He played better then Matthews and equal with Lewan who wasn’t asked to move around from G to LT, the toughest spot to play. Robinson has his struggles no doubt about it…but he also dominated at times as a rookie…he mauled some good DE’s and knocked the stuffing out of LB’s at the second level.

In fact didn’t Matthews and Lewan both play RT? I think Matthews might have ended up at LT due to an injury….but he was awful. <me note: Lewan played 9 games at RT, Matthews play 15 games at LT…PFF rates Lewan better than GR, & rates Matthews worse>

Robinson had that toe injury nobody knew about as well…for a man his size that is a bad injury to try and play with.

I think Robinson is heading to All Pro status sooner rather then later. He has more talent in his left hand then either of those other two do in their entire body.

If he is the coachable / worker that we have been led to believe and he works on his technique, he has the athletic gifts to be one of the best LT’s in the league. I expect a different player this year…dominant in fact.

Well, I just agree with all of that.

Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.

Yeah I agree with that overall view of Robinson too.

As for the injury issue…you know I read one place where someone said that he had the toe injury in his last 3 games and that it had an effect on his performance.

I can’t back that up right now.

If so, then this is the Rams OL injury saga from 2014:

    Pre-season

    Long: recovering from knee
Wells: recovering from freak infection (including ICU and lost 40 pounds)
Jones: back surgery, season long effects (because he couldn’t lift weights until recovered)
    Barnes: neck, I think
Rhaney: bruised knee final week of pre-season, redshirt IR

    In-season

    Long: knee, out
    Wells: elbow, played hurt
    Saffold: shoulder, played hurt
    Barnes: ribs
    Robinson: toe (surgery after season)

Hopefully Robinson will solely practice at Left Tackle this year. That will expedite his learning curve. Going up against Quinn will also expedite it

so much of this offense is tied not just to new guys coming in but young players already on this team with massive potential.

robinson is definitely one of them. one could argue being the left tackle that he could have the biggest impact on this offense outside of nick foles.

last year he was up and down but if he can be that dominant left tackle in 2015 it will have a ripple effect on every other position on this offense.

i’d definitely say he’s an x factor. i don’t think there’s anyone on that unit with more untapped potential than greg robinson.

i mean the one guy with the most room for improvement combined with maybe the highest ceiling playing one of the most important positions on offense?

    that could transform this offense.
