    NFL chat with Jim Thomas

    http://sports.live.stltoday.com/Event/NFL_chat_with_Jim_Thomas_4?Page=0

Jim, I was wondering, does the Rams Super Bowl Vince Lombardi Trophy stay in St. Louis? That is where it was won and I think where it should stay.
    by RR 2:08 PM

Hello again everybody. Got back fro Super Bowl a little after midnight last night. We’ll start today with RR. Unfortunately for St. Louis, the Lombardi Trophy goes with the team. It was displayed in the lobby at the Rams Park facility in Earth City for years behind a glass case (w/other trophies and memorabilia). It will make the trip out West w/the rest of the team.
    by jthomas 2:12PM

So I saw that Goodell says St. Louis still has chance for NFL team. Since his word is not worth the paper it is printed on, I think I will plan on MLS tickets for my future
    by MoMike 2:12PM

To be honest with you, that’s probably a good move.
    by jthomas 2:12PM

Anything new on Peyton Manning retiring?
    by GS 2:12PM

Not really. He said he was going to take a little time before deciding what to do, but I think most everybody expects him to retire. It’s interesting after the game, he said that Tony Dungy told him don’t make an immediate decision based on emotion. If Dick Vermeil had taken that course, he might have stayed on in St. Louis for a few more years. . .and who knows what would have happened. Maybe another Lombardi Trophy or two?
    by jthomas 2:15PM

When Peyton Manning retires, do you think he will be an offensive coordinator, a head coach, an announcer or maybe somebody who ate too many Papa John’s pizzas and drank too many Budweisers?
    by Tom R 2:15PM

The hours involved in coaching are tremendous. For that reason, a lot of players _ especially those who have been at or near the top of the game both in playing and money made _ stay out of coaching. I don’t know what’s on Manning’s mind post-football but doing analyst work and more commercials seems more likely.
    by jthomas 2:17PM

No reason to keep secrets, what Rams rumors did you hear at the Super Bowl?
    by RamFanInPA 2:17PM

That’s kind of a broad questions. The only gossip I heard _ and it’s probably more than gossip _ is that Dallas might open the preseason playing the Rams in the LA Coliseum, and that the Rams might have their offseason program and OTAs in Oxnard, with their training camp in Orange County.
    by jthomas 2:19PM

Has anyone shared an opinion with you if any of the lawsuits filed by Rams fans trying to get PSL money back will have a chance of success?
    by GS 2:19PM

    Not really. Sorry.
    by jthomas 2:20PM

What about a John Elway type role for Peyton Manning down the road. If I was Tennessee I’d certainly consider it (if just for the PR benefits alone). Thoughts?
    by Thad 2:20PM

Yeah, I guess that’s a possibility. Again, a lot of hours but not like the coaching grind.
    by jthomas 2:21PM

Although I don’t trust Goodell or this ownership group at all, history does favor cities who lost teams, either by hook or crook, to get a new team within 8-15 years. The only way I see history favoring STL is through Goodell’s replacement and the next generation of owners. Thoughts?
    by Den 2:21PM

Yeah, but St. Louis doesn’t seem to have much of an appetite for pursuing the NFL at this point. Maybe that changes. Goodell is still fairly young, so a replacement would probably come more at the back end of your time frame _ the 15 years out.
    by jthomas 2:23PM

Would Jay Nixon really meet with Goodell about bringing the NFL back? If so, do you think that would mean an existing team or an expansion team?

Or is Goodell just trying to save face during his Superbowl sideshow?
    by Taguchi99 2:23PM

I’m sure there’s no harm in talking, but keep in mind Nixon is out of office in less than a year. As for another team, the NFL currently has shown no appetite for expansion so it would have to be an existing team. Unless something changes with Mark Davis and Oakland, I can’t see that happening in the near future. I think Goodell was keeping the door open. It’s smart to never say never. The NFL likes using non-NFL cities as leverage to help get stadiums built around the league.
    by jthomas 2:26PM

Did you hear the rumor that Oakland might play 16 Away games next year? Your thoughts?
    by Tom R 2:26PM

    That won’t happen.
    by jthomas 2:26PM

I would love to see the MLS happen very soon. I still hope maybe there’s a chance for an NBA team…. what are your thoughts?
    by Jay 2:26PM

Looks like the earliest an MLS team could be here is 2020, which I believe is the next round of expansion. But it’s clear the MLS seems sincerely interested. As for the NBA, can’t see it happening since the season overlaps w/hockey. Not that those audiences necessarily are the same, but I’d think the NBA would take some fans away from hockey.
    by jthomas 2:28PM

What are the chances of a NFL development team an arena league team or a Canadian League football team coming to the stl?
    by Yourtellingmetheresachance 2:29PM

Do you really think St. Louis would get excited about any of that? I really doubt it.
    by jthomas 2:29PM

Aren’t goodell’s comments about St. Louis mostly for the benefit of owners in Tampa and Carolina, or anybody else who will be looking for some public financing to build new stadiums in the near future?
    by Thad 2:29PM

    To a degree, yes. Leverage.
    by jthomas 2:30PM

The Raiders should come here… we have a stadium ready.
    by Jay 2:30PM

Don’t know why Mark Davis wouldn’t at least look into it.
    by jthomas 2:30PM

seems like the best shot Denver has in pulling a repeat is if Manning retires, freeing up a wad of cap space so the the Broncos can resign their free agents like Von Miller.
    by big tuna 2:31PM

Yeah, they certainly have a good core, especially on defense. They can always put the franchise tag on Miller as well in the short term.
    by jthomas 2:31PM

Hi Jim. Since ST Louis no longer has a football team, why have a ST Louis chat? GO CARDINALS BASEBALL!!!
    by Bryan 2:32PM

Because the NFL remains by far the nation’s most popular sport. You seem to have had enough interest to find your way here.
    by jthomas 2:33PM

Making no apologies for Newton’s postgame behavior, but I can’t blame a guy for not wanting to hear the other team’s comments and glee about defeating him. Why would they have them so close to one another? Did other Panthers players, like Norman and Olsen, have the same problem during their presser?
    by Michael 2:33PM

Because of the crush of reporters at Super Bowls,, most of the interviews are done outside the locker room. It’s a pretty common occurrence at Super Bowls for these post-game interviews to be pretty close to each other. While realizing that Newton was clearly devastated with the loss, I’m sure he’s had a lot of experience tuning out crowd noise on the field. I don’t see it as much of an excuse.
    by jthomas 2:36PM

My two sons 6 1/2 and 4 yr old want to be Rams Fans so I will continue to do so. I have 3 questions.
    1. Do you think Roger Gooddell was serious about football in the stl on friday or just a company line to make themselves look good.
    2. What are the chances of a NFL developmental team, Arena team or Canadian football team coming to the STL
    3. What do you think will happen with Chris Long will he be back with the Rams? Thank you
    by CoachB 2:36PM

1.) Just being smart. In the NFL, you learn to never say never. 2.) Slim to none. 3.) Hard to see him back at his current cap number _ $14.25 million.
    by jthomas 2:36PM

Hi Jim, I’ve tried to get these sentiments onto the chat for a few weeks, so here’s another try: first, I want to thank you for all the great coverage and for keeping us away from the ledge after so many disappointments with the Rams. Also, though I am ecstatic to have the Rams back home, where I watched them since I was a little kid, I feel very sorry for the STL fans, who are great fans. STL is a fine city, visited several times to see Rams games and toured around. The NFL sadly is a monopoly that acts like one, and throws fans under the bus whenever it suits them. I wish you personally all the best, and the same to your city!
    by Tom 2:39PM

Tom, thanks for the thoughts. The NFL indeed can be a cold business. It’s hard to imagine why the NFL thinks the prospect of alienating three markets (St. Louis, Oakland, San Diego) to move into one market (LA) is a good thing.
    by jthomas 2:40PM

When NFL players travel, what is their meal money allowance compared to MLB?

    Thanks
    by GS 2:40PM

Not sure on this one, sorry. But keep in mind, they don’t travel nearly as much as baseball players.
    by jthomas 2:41PM

Hi Jim! Still puzzled as to why Spanos would go back to San Diego with tail between his legs or become Kroneke’s tenant in LA, when he could come to St. Louis with a potential revitalize new stadium in this market. Could hold the Chargers name, etc. with SD, like the Browns did, if needed to make it work.
    by Larry 2:41PM

Yeah, you make good points. But it seems like if he had his way, he’d prefer to stay in San Diego.
    by jthomas 2:43PM

Hi Jim did the find you an office over at the Post or are you regulated to the mail room. Seriously though would you consider LA if an offer came up?
    by Up North 2:43PM

I’m actually working from home today. But I will continue to use my workspace at Rams Park until the end of March and then transfer to the Post-Dispatch downtown office. As for LA, I’d at least listen.
    by jthomas 2:45PM

I don’t understand the trolls in LA saying that St. Louisans should get over losing the Rams and that it’s karma that the Rams have returned to LA, especially considering how their beloved Dodgers, Lakers, and Clippers came from other areas. I also don’t understand people who say that people who won’t follow the Rams after they have left are not real fans. I was definitely a real fan when the Rams were here, as I lived and died with their wins and losses. I guess I’m just a bigger fan of St. Louis. If I’m not a real Rams fan, then the Rams are not a real team, especially one worth following, considering everything they have pulled.
    by David 2:45PM

A few things. I’m sure there were plenty of St. Louis Rams things saying the same things to LA Rams fans in 1995. So a part of that is understandable. But there are two fundamental things that are different about the situation. For one southern California didn’t have a stadium plan in the mid 90s then the Rams left. St. Louis did, and a pretty good one regardless of the NFL and Rams spin on the deal. The other thing that you allude is interesting as well. The LA teams were once the Brooklyn Dodgers, Minneapolis Lakers, San Diego Clippers, and Cleveland Rams. (Not to mention the period when they had the Oakland Raiders.0 So it’s hard to feel too guilty about a team going the other way _ that is, “stealing” the LA Rams in 1995. While I admire the loyalty of the LA Rams fans, I do think it would be different if they had gotten another NFL team in the 21 seasons they went without football. Especially one that went to Super Bowls, like the StL Rams.
    by jthomas 2:50PM

Jim, for the first time in 50 years I feel nothing but disgust for the Rams ownership, which does effect how I feel about the team. The after cost profit ends up lining the pocket of Mr. Kranky, therefore I’m not purchasing anything that contributes to that, including cancelling Sunday Ticket, and telling directv the reasons. I hope the city of St. Louis and the county can successfully sue for recovery of funds that this observer thinks were spend based on a fraud by the NFL, you never had a chance. Just think what the community could have accomplished with spending 13 million(correct me if I’m wrong) and even more importantly, had those man hours been spent on solving issues in your community. I find it impossible to root for the team and separate it from the owner, he is heartless. I mean after all, how much money is enough and at whose expense do you acquire it. Shame on Mr. Kranky!! Do you have any idea on the actual costs spent on this fraud, how many hours spent and is anyone going after the recovery of assets?
    by OTRamsFan 2:51PM

Actually, it was $16 million. That’s just pocket change for Kroenke. The league should’ve made Kroenke pay that money back as part of the relocation fee. Not that that will ever happen. I understand your anguish. There was a fundamental unfairness about this entire deal. The good fans of StL did not deserve this.
    by jthomas 2:53PM

Jim – What was the most interesting thing you heard during your time at the Super Bowl about St. Louis?
    by McGarrett 2:54PM

Most people I talked to thought it would be a long wait before St. Louis gets another team. (if ever). Most media members I talked to don’t have a high regard for how the league handled this. They feel St. Louis got dumped on. I talked to Eric Grubman for a while by myself after Goodell’s press conference, and he said some interesting things. I plan to get those in print sometime this week.
    by jthomas 2:56PM

So it seems as though roger goodell is already hard at working trying to turn St. Louis into the next nfl new stadium boogeyman with his comments about the nfl possibly not being done with us. As a region, is there anything we can do to not play along with the idea we’re looking to poach another team? Apparently Mayor Slay’s comments weren’t enough.
    by Thad 2:56PM

Again,, I don’t sense much of an appetite for pursuing the NFL at this point. Maybe that changes over time.
    by jthomas 2:57PM

There was an article in the paper that suggested the NFL again was going to change the All Star format. Have you heard what changes are being considered? I guess they weren’t happy with the quality or intensity of play.
    by GS 2:57PM

Goodell mentioned at his Super Bowl press conference that his wasn’t happy with the Pro Bowl this year, and suggested that perhaps the league needs to reconsider the format once again. But that’s as far as it went.
    by jthomas 2:58PM

Who wins a Super Bowl first: Chargers or Rams?
    by Alex 2:58PM

I wouldn’t hold your breath on either.
    by jthomas 2:59PM

Hi Tim! Not sure if my first question went through. Still not sure why Spanos would want to go back to San Diego with tail between his legs or become Kroenke’s tenant in LA, when he could come to St. Louis with and revitalize the Riverfront stadium? Could keep Chargers names, etc. in SD if that is needed to make it work. Thoughts…thanks!!
    by Larry 2:59PM

Well, first off, it’s Jim. I think I did get to your earlier question.
    by jthomas 2:59PM

I had asked last time about personnel and human interest end of things a one rams way. That was a spectacular article exploring it further. Couldn’t help but notice that iconic SI cover featuring Kurt… “who is this guy” my favorite SI cover all time. Thanks again for doing article!
    by MJ 3:00PM

    Thx, and you’re welcome.
    by jthomas 3:00PM

Anything going on with resigning any of our upcoming FA’s?
    by Tom 3:01PM

I’m sure the Rams are working on it, between getting everything ready for the move to LA. I thought they would’ve had some players re-signed by now. We’re only a month removed now from the start of the free agency period. But I don’t really have any specifics on negotiations, although I did hear there’s a possibility that Trumaine Johnson could be given the transition tag
    by jthomas 3:03PM

As last week wore on, I saw a QB (Newton) go from joyful to annoyed and weary by week’s end. That seemed to carry over into the game, as he was so uncharacteristic of what we saw all year, even when they were still very much in the game. What do you think was the reason for the lackluster performance?…nerves?…worn out…?…etc.?
    by Jake 3:04PM

He did seem nervous at the start of the game. High throws are definitely a tell-tale sign that that’s the case. Obviously, you have to give the Denver defense a lot of credit. They literally knocked the fun out of him. It was interesting during the pregame build-up of Super Bowl week how he gradually became more annoyed with the questioning, particularly the repeat questions. Basically, he had only 4 twenty-minute sessions to worry about all week w/respect to the media. In the grand scheme of thing, that’s really not a big chunk of his time. If I had been a member of the Carolina pr staff(and maybe they did so) I would’ve pointed out to Newton going into Super Bowl week that almost all of the media attending your press conferences will be people who have not followed the team all year. So they may ask you questions that you’ve heard before, and perhaps heard on many occasions before. I would’ve also pointed out that many of the media here have traveled at significant expense to their media outlets to cover you, your team, and the game. I think it was another example that Newton still has some growing up to do.
    by jthomas 3:13PM

I’ve read that Sam Brandford’s agent wanted Philadelphia to pay him $25 million a year. Could he have asked the Rams for that? Is that why the Rams traded him more than the injury issues?
    by bfulton 3:13PM

I think it was more the injury issues.
    by jthomas 3:14PM

What is this rumor of the Eagles wanting Nick Foles back?
    by Yourtellingmetheresachance 3:14PM

I don’t put much stock into it.
    by jthomas 3:14PM

We’re you present for Cam’s SB50 post-game presser. Sure seemed like that was positively the last place on the planet he wanted to be…
    by MJ 3:14PM

I was not. Obviously, I saw it a couple, three times on the Internet. Here’s the thing: We all know he was devastated after the loss. No one expects him to be the bluebird of happiness. But if you can laugh and dance and carry on after you’ve thrown 4 TD passes in a game, you can answer a few questions after things don’t go so well. That’s the acid test for most sportswriters, and the athletes that are available and put forth at least some effort to answer questions when things don’t go right, are the ones that are the most respected. And I’ve told several Rams players that over the years.
    by jthomas 3:18PM

Is anyone at the P-D looking into who, if anyone, has standing to sue the NFL for potentially violating its rules regarding franchise approval? My guess is that some combination of the state/city could sue for estimated loss revenue, but I’m not sure. thanks
    by Dan Fouts 3:18PM

We’re keeping an eye on it.
    by jthomas 3:19PM

3 times I would have loved to been a fly on the wall to hear the conversation … In the oval office during the Cuban missile crisis, Abby Road studios during the “Let it Be” album recordings and with you and Demoff after the relocation announcement. What do you say Jim, I missed out on the first 2, any chance you can help me with the third?
    by Jimbo 3:19PM

There wasn’t really anything magical or mystical about the conservation. We just went over some of the details of what transpired and some of the heartache for St. Louis.
    by jthomas 3:20PM

What was your schedule like when you were on the Rams beat (wow, feels weird to say that) since obviously your chat is on Tuesdays and the Rams’s off day was on Tuesdays? Did you ever have a day off during the week? How did you and your colleague (Coats, Nelson, Lyons, Kee, et al.) split up duties? And how often were you at Rams Park versus at the P-D downtown?

Speaking of which, I assume you have to be out of Earth City and back downtown by the time the Rams need to be out of Rams Park? Any word on what Joe Lyons’s next gig is and what Nick Wagoner has decided? It’d be a shame to lose Nick to California.
    by David 3:20PM

Didn’t get many days off during the season. But got a block of time off in the late spring and early summer (post OTAs and pre training camp), which made it worthwhile. Usually, Saturdays of home games were the only built in days off. My partners over the years usually did the notebooks every day, the opposing team feature during the season, and a sidebar or two on game day. It was a one-person gig for much of the offseason, except when we got close to the draft and also of course during the June OTAs. A lot of hours, but as my father used to say _ it beats digging ditches. The routine isn’t much different for football beat writers around the NFL. As I mentioned early, I’ll still have my “office” in the Rams Park media room until the end of March. I had lunch with Joe Lyons before I left for the Super Bowl. He’s not exactly sure what he’ll be doing next, although he has a lot of expertise in covering soccer and wrestling (besides football). It’s strange, for 3 years I spent more time with him than I did w/my family. Now, I won’t see him much.
    by jthomas 3:30PM

Since losing the Rams…. I have become addicted to any NEWS from the NFL any sign of maybe having another team. I guess I need to freeze my body for 8 to 15 years and hope when I come out of that comma we have a team. LOL
    by Jay 3:31PM

It may be a longer freeze than that, Austin Powers.
    by jthomas 3:31PM

The Rams stink. The NFL steals our team from us. There has been no St. Louis football in over a month and St. Louis football fans still show up for the chat. I think that says a lot of good things about St. Louis football fans and a lot of good things about Jim Thomas.
    by Tom R 3:32PM

St. Louis is a great sports town.
    by jthomas 3:32PM

Jim, you are a great writer. Would love you to cover the Rams for the LA times or OC register. My kids are all grown so I have 3 spare bedrooms.
    by Rob 3:33PM

That might help w/the cost of living expenses!
    by jthomas 3:34PM

What questions, if any, were you able to ask Goodell during his press conference at the Super Bowl? What were his answers?
    by tom 3:36PM

Here’s a link to a story I wrote off the press conference. http://www.stltoday.com
    by jthomas 3:36PM

so Jim, did you enjoy the Super Bowl? or were you too busy working?
    by big tuna 3:37PM

I’ll just put it this way. It was a business trip. But I’ve been to the Bay Area plenty of times over the years and have seen the sights. My biggest regret is that I didn’t have a chance to attend the Leigh Steinberg Super Bowl party. I got a personal invitation this year _ one of my career highlights! 🙂
    by jthomas 3:40PM

I loved Terry Crouppen’s super bowl ad message scolding Stan. Did you get a chance to see it?
    by MoMike 3:40PM

Yeah, I did. Very enjoyable. Wonder how much it cost.
    by jthomas 3:41PM

What would have happened if the Raiders & Chargers had proposed the Inglewood site?
    by GoCards 3:41PM

That was Spanos’ biggest mistake of this whole deal. As soon as Kroenke won the arbitration in St. Louis, Spanos should have made his move in terms of the LA market. And done it without Oakland, I think the Raiders were more help than hindrance to the Chargers during this entire process.
    by jthomas 3:43PM

Afternoon Jim. So to recap this chat so far St. Louis had a great stadium plan. NFL stole our team. Yada, yada, yada. Question when is St. Louis going to realize that everyone read right thru their so called “great stadium plan” and St. Louis is now being subjected to exactly what Georgia did to LA Rams fans 21 years ago. Ever? Trust me outside of St. Louis no one feels sorry for St. Louis.
    by Warner to Bruce 3:44PM

Actually, Georgia Frontiere wouldn’t have moved the Rams out of southern California 21 years ago had Stan Kroenke not decided he could make more profits short-term in St. Louis. He was given the option of buying up to 40 percent of the team and staying in Anaheim, or buying up to 40 percent of the team and moving to St. Louis. He chose the St. Louis option, so the team moved. .
    by jthomas 3:47PM

Any truth to the rumor that Stan Kroenke told the other owners no to “cross” him? Or the threats of lawsuit if his application to relocate was denied?
    by tom 3:48PM

Don’t think there was anything to that.
    by jthomas 3:48PM

Everything st Louis feels about Stan was felt equally by so cal fans about Georgia, the woman with 7 husbands. Do you realize that?
    by Walter 3:48PM

Except of course that St. Louis had a stadium offer and SoCal didn’t. Do you realize that?
    by jthomas 3:49PM

Jim–Georgia or Stan?Worst owner Rams ever had?
    by BoPat from SoCal 3:49PM

Well, let’s see. One owner won a Super Bowl, went to two Super Bowls, and put together the Greatest Show on Turf as majority owner. The other has a record of 36-59-1 as majority owner, with no playoff berths and no winning seasons.
    by jthomas 3:51PM

Anything from Chip Rosenbloom on how he feels about this process? I believe he is still a minority owner?
    by MoMike 3:52PM

Interesting question. No, I haven’t had contract with Chip in quite some time. I’m not sure if he still owns a piece of the team or not.
    by jthomas 3:53PM

what direction do you see the rams heading the draft? O/D? Any specific position they will focus on?
    by draftneeds 3:54PM

Again, it depends on what happens in free agency. Specifically what success the Rams have in re-signing their own free agents. Remember, three of the four starters in the secondary are scheduled for unrestricted free agency (Jenkins, Johnson, McLeod). And that doesn’t include LB/S hybrid Mark Barron, who’s also scheduled for free agency. If the Rams suffer multiple losses in the secondary, that obviously changes their priority. But right now, it’s gotta be QB and WR.
    by jthomas 3:57PM

Do you see the Rams trying to get a big name and overpay in Free Agency/trade or will they wait till they move into the new stadium for a move like that?
    by draftneeds 3:57PM

I think they’d like to make a splash this offseason, and they have the money to do so.
    by jthomas 3:58PM

That stadium offer was a gift of public funds aka corporate welfare. It was only made because stl didn’t want an empty stadium. Georgia fleeced st loiuis. In the end her moving was pennywise and pound foolish. She had a stadium here, didn’t need an offer
    by Walter 3:59PM

Funny, I seem to recall Bob McNair, head of the league’s powerful finance committee, being quoted in the Houston Chronicle in December saying St. Louis was pretty close to having a very good stadium plan on the table.
    by jthomas 4:00PM

What does Jim Thomas do now that the NFL season is over and the Rams have left town?
    by BoPat from SoCal 4:00PM

I’ll be at the NFL Scouting Combine later this month. Meanwhile, the chats continue.
    by jthomas 4:01PM

No one outside of St. Louis? I have Born and raised in Pa. and have been a Ram fan since 1978. And I did not want them back in LA. St Louis was stepped on for Greed.
    by Gary in Pennsylvania 4:02PM

    So there. . . .
    by jthomas 4:02PM

Is Todd Gurley the face of the LA Rams or is it Aaron Donald or both?
    by BoPat from SoCal 4:02PM

I think you’ve identified two very good starting points for the Rams in LA.
    by jthomas 4:02PM

Cortland Finnegan said that Fisher knew about the move to L.A. 3 years ago. Did he?
    by Scott 4:02PM

That was perhaps the most interesting thing about my interview with Cortland. Only Fisher knows for sure.
    by jthomas 4:03PM

In the end I hope cities across the country band together and stop subsidizing billionaires. It never ends well for taxpayers. This is true across the political spectrum. Liberals and conservatives both agree. Thoughts?

Even with the Super Bowl loss, I think there are hundreds of thousands of Carolina Panthers fans who would disagree with you. Whether right or wrong, I think the only way the NFL can work in smaller to medium markets is a private/public partnership in terms of stadium construction.

The Rams just announced they have sold out the season ticket allotment for the 2016 season. So much for LA fans not wanting Rams football!

Check back with us after 12 consecutive non-winning seasons.

Gurley said he wants to be the next Kobe. Kobe has five rings and multiple MVPs. Smart comment?

Not at all. Why not dream big?

Do you believe Stan will put much effort in trying to build a winner, or will he only care about his profit? I will still root for them but hope Stan cares as much as us fans.
    by Gary in Pennsylvania 4:07PM

I think he’ll try to build a winner if only because he realizes LA will not support the product that’s been put on the field the last decade-plus in StL.

Of all the names out there at QB that the Rams can acquire, who seems the most likely candidate to be the starting QB next year.
    by GS 4:08PM

You know, as a short–term solution, guys like Fitzpatrick, Chase Daniel, Osweiler, and Cousins all are worth looking into. (Although, of course, I doubt if Osweiler or Cousins actually reach the market).
    by jthomas 4:08PM

The Rams have received 56,000 applications for season tix at 100 dollars a pop. My app included. It’s deja vu all over again going back to the Coliseum where I went to Ram games with my dad. Needless to say I am stoked. Now if only the Rams could sign a couple of big name FA and we might be in business.
    by BoPat from SoCal 4:09PM

The Rams aren’t that far away from being a playoff team. It starts at QB.

We still show up for these chats because we are fans of YOURS. We wish you the best on the change in your job.

    Thanks Bob.

Jim–do you think Kirk Cousins is a one hit wonder like Nick Foles?
    by BoPat from SoCal 4:11PM

With Cousins, he’s not in a gimmicky offense like Foles was in Philly. So you’d have to think he’d have more staying power. With Cousins, it’s always been about the turnovers. He’s a different QB when his INT rate is down.

Token banner comment: along with an updated picture of yourself, replace Robert Quinn with a general picture of a football (without the NFL logo showing…although I do appreciate Quinn for thanking STL fans and looking like he meant it when he did so)?
    by David 4:13PM

I’m sure by the start of the next football season, you’ll see some changes there.
    by jthomas 4:13PM

Just want to say thanks for the great coverage of the Rams over the years. I would really miss your chats. I hope the Post keeps NFL coverage with these chats, I will always check in on the paper daily to see what stories you have. Thanks.

    Thanks. Chats will continue.

56K people put down a $100 refundable deposit to but tickets to watch NFL football in a 100 year old college stadium. Is that supposed to be impressive? I remember many more than that in STL committing to PSLs with much more than a $100 investment. Just wait until stan announces how much PSLs are going to cost!
    by Gerald Reynolds 4:14PM

We’ll see. Even in LA, there may be some sticker shock when the PSL prices come out. Still, I think you have to say the initial response has been impressive.

“I loved Terry Crouppen’s super bowl ad message scolding Stan. Did you get a chance to see it?
    by MoMike 3:40PM”

Was it only aired in St. Louis?

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

    Sprinkles are for winners.

This was funny. Banned 2016 super bowl commercials from the UK for Lynx shower gel. Starts at 53 seconds and goes to 3:15. Each one is very short.
