JackPMillerParticipantNext weeks game with the 9ers is a must win. Unless both the Saints and Panthers lose, which I don’t see happening. We need to beat the 49ers to clinch the third seed.

InvaderRamModeratordo they? rams just sent out emails for the wild card game. i thought they clinched the third seed?
if so, i’d sit all the starters.
i mean i hate the niners, but i also don’t want to see any injuries.

The Panthers and Saints are 11-4 as well.

InvaderRamModeratorwell regardless they clinched a home playoff game.
i guess it’ll be important in determining who the opponent will be.

If we get the 3rd seed, we play Atlanta or Seattle. If we lose and get the 4th seed, we will play New Orleans, or Carolina.

wvParticipantOk, so they get a home game win or lose. But a win or loss still has bearing on the opponent.
Interesting.
…btw, Goff needs almost 200 yards to get to 4000. I’d like the kid to get 4000.

vWell, the most important thing is not to send the 49ers into the offseason feeling good about themselves.
Which team the Rams steamroll in the first round of the playoffs is secondary to that.

canadaramParticipantI don’t see it that way. The Rams will have a tough opponent no matter who they play. The Rams will also present as a tough out for their opponent. I’d rather they rest all the key players.

Eternal RamnationParticipantYeah it’s not a must win they clinched the division . The rest maybe more important than the opponent. They may prefer to go to Philly and let someone else beat on the Vikes first as far as strategy goes. Getting someone hurt in a meaningless whiner game would not be smart.

Will Jimmy G enter the 2018 season still with an unblemished starting record in the NFL?December 26, 2017 at 1:53 pm #79572
TSRFParticipantI like the 4th seed better and here is why: If things go according to plan (home teams winning in the wildcard round), the 3rd seed plays the Vikings, the 4th seed plays the Eagles.
Who would you rather play? Me, I’d rather play Nick Foles and the Eagles.
The flipside being, if we stay at 3 and beat the Vikings and the Saints or whoever beat the Eagles, we’d get the NFC Championship Game at home in LA.
Would still rather be 4…

Interesting. But i think theyd beat the Vikes or the Eagles.
Its weird because i think they would do better against the Vikes or Eagles than some of the other teams.

znModeratorClearly this game is not a must win, or they would play all the regular starters.
I have the feeling I will be watching this game to get a sense of how good the depth is. Because it is just going to be harder to win.
On offense they are replacing Whitworth, Sullivan, Gurley, Goff, and maybe Kupp I think too.
Maybe we find out that Mannion’s good. That he’s a starting caliber qb looking for an opportunity. That would be good.
Maybe they can play at a pretty competitive level with Williams and Blythe starting.
But. If they can play well enough to win with ALL those guys, it’s gravy…not something you would normally expect.

znModeratorThe way it looks right now, the Rams LOT is Wms, the LOG is Blythe, and the OC is Neary. How does that look? Well I think a line with 3 replacements is at a disadvantage regardless who the line coach is.
That doesn’t mean they can’t win. It just has to fall right. To break new ground with non-obvious deep insights
… the defense has to be good, Mannion has to be sharp, and Brown has to be sharp. Taking the last 3 games by themselves, the SF offense ranks 4th. If that’s real it’s a test for the defense. But also in the last 3 games the SF defense ranks 29th in yards, 23rd in points, 25th in sack percentage, and 22nd in opponents’ passer rating…though they are also 7th in opponents’ yards per carry rushing.

JackPMillerParticipantSince we are playing are backups, I have it, 9ers 24- Rams 20.
