Our grand-daughter, Lydia-Renée, was born just a day ago. Mother and child are doing fine. As I have been telling people, little Lydia-Renée is just one more good reason to fix the 21st century.

Choosing the name was easy–they did it months ago. Right now the big family debate is over the uniform design and colors. I won’t even get into the helmet discussion yet. That’s a big one.

“A thing which I regret, and which I will try to remedy some time, is that I have never in my life planted a walnut. Nobody does plant them nowadays—when you see a walnut it is almost invariably an old tree. If you plant a walnut you are planting it for your grandchildren, and who cares a damn for his grandchildren?”

    Congrats, ZN.

Did she have the baby at home or in a hospital?

My niece is pregnant, and doesn’t want to go to a hospital. She is seriously looking for a midwife to do a home birth.

After being in the delivery room with my wife for the births of both of our children, I am not encouraging her to have the baby at home.
