    94 years old.

The son of Polish immigrants. Grew up speaking Polish and English and then was able to French, Swedish, Finnish, German and Portuguese. Husband to my mom (who is still alive) for 70 years. Was in the Navy in WW2 but never saw active duty before the war ended (he was NROTC and ended up with a degree in Mechanical Engineering). Played football and basketball for Notre Dame (back up center on both teams). Was offered a contract by the Cleveland Rams, but took a job as an ME instead (said it paid just as much and nobody would hit him). Raised 7 children and sent all of us to college (I’m the youngest).

We all saw it coming as he has been failing physically for some time. I made my peace and saw him Tuesday right after his stroke and then on Thursday with my wife and children.

He was a Redskins fan (back from when they were the Boston Redskins; he grew up in Bridgeport, CT and was a fan of all the Boston teams).

I’m proud to be his son.

My condolences on your loss, T. It sounds like he was a good man and clearly left a good legacy. That’s how I felt when my own father passed. I can’t speak for your experience but I hear from your story that there were so many positives, and that’s speaks well of him, and since they’re your words, speaks well of you too. Take care.

    Thanks, all.

I do consider you all, strangers who I have never met in person but kindred souls on this board to be part of my extended family.

If only Cooper didn’t muff that punt…

At least my baseball team is the front runner. World Series or bust for the Yankees this year. I may do opening day.

    TSRF,

Sorry to hear this. It sounds like he was a great father, and the duration of their marriage is remarkable. Almost unheard of.

I hope you and your family can spend as much time together as possible, celebrating his life and times.

    All the best —
