Rams RB Todd Gurley was asked if he will approach this offseason any differently. “Yeah, obviously, Coming off a season like this, you don’t want to ever feel that way again. You’re going to have that in your mindset to work just a little bit harder, because you never want to go through a 4-12 season again.”

Rams DE Will Hayes, on what needs to change: “We just need to change the culture, man. We have to create a winning culture around here. That’s what we’re lacking right now.”

Rams TE Lance Kendricks, on what he wants out of the new head coach: “We just really need to have someone that can motivate us. Not that Jeff Fisher didn’t. But we need someone to motivate us, and we need someone to be on our butts when we mess up. Whether it’s each other, whether it’s the coach. Whoever it is.”

Rams WR Tavon Austin and QB Jared Goff had a heart-to-heart conversation in the locker room. Said Austin: “We got to elevate our game to a whole other level next year. Everybody is going to be held accountable.”

Rams OL Rodger Saffold, on Jared Goff’s development: “To me, after having this season, when he told everybody that he’s going to do whatever it takes to change it, let’s see how these next few months go, and we’ll see if he does. We’ll see if he does.”

How can you not love John Fassel? Ended the first question by saying, “I think I’ve run out of words,” then went long on almost every answer. Said: “Sorry for a long answer to a simple question.” Used the word “hoedown” to refer to a fight. He also called this “the best coaching experience I’ve had in my life. … I can’t imagine ever being thrust into a more unique situation.”

Jared Goff went around the room postgame. His message: “Just remember what his feels like. It’s going to drive you through the offseason. It’s going to drive you into next year. It’s going to maybe even carry with you for the rest of your life.”
January 1, 2017 at 11:19 pm #62151HramParticipantEarly report, but still good to hear Goff is talking to his team.
Sounds like Saffold needs to go. He doesn’t believe.

Yeah Saffold should hit the road with his walking wounded act.
The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.
Sprinkles are for winners.

If you think I was talking bad ab @JaredGoff16 you are sadly mistaken all we talk ab is how to make this team better.January 2, 2017 at 8:06 am #62171bnwBlockedGetting an O line not comprised of glass would be a good start. Goff is getting Bulgerized.

I didn’t take Saffold’s comment that way. To me he was echoing a room full of players who were basically saying, we need to hold each other accountable.
And the comment makes sense in that respect. Goff says, boy I am going to work hard. RS says, okay we;ll see–as in, the time for talk is over, no matter who you are.
January 2, 2017 at 12:00 pm #62199HramParticipantScaffold said, “we’ll see if he does.” Twice. He does, not we do or they do.
Not the best way to express himself if what he meant was something like, “as a veteran and leader, I’m excited about Goff and how he is already laser focused on holding people accountable. I’m doubling down on his comments and challenging everyone to work as hard as me and him this offseason. Put in the time and expect to win next fall with Goff as our quarterback or find somewhere else to play and don’t come back.
I don’t think Saffold is part of the solution plus and he takes up more cap space then he is worth.
January 2, 2017 at 12:17 pm #62203InvaderRamModeratoror maybe he knows something we don’t. who knows.
i hope not. i hope goff isn’t just full of hot air.

Saffold’s wording may have been confusing but he publically stated that he wasn’t dissing Goff.
January 2, 2017 at 1:09 pm #62209sanbaggerParticipantThat was a weird comment by Saffold. He said it twice and that usually means something, and how can it be taken out of context, when he said it again?
There’s no way for Saffold to know how Goff is gonna work in the off-season since this will be the first for him.
After reading Goff was going around the room talking to everybody and telling them to remember how this feels…well, that just struck me as maybe a little too much. He needs to become the leader of the team by his work and his play…I can’t speak for how hard he works, but reports during the season were he worked hard but his play didn’t earn him that role yet…maybe just tone it down a smidge.
I really didn’t like that Saffold comment and feel like his tweet was more damage control than sincerity…just the way it comes off to me.

The question is what “it” IS…that is, how people are interpreting it. I interpreted it as him buying into the hold each other accountable thing the whole locker room was saying after the game. IF you read the entire bunch of press conferences that comes through. Fassel, Goff, Saffold, Austin, Gurley, Tree, Tru, McDonald, Hayes …1/1: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/fassel-goff-saffold-austin-gurley-tree-tru-mcdonald-hayes-11/
That includes this:
(On if seven sacks allowed stings a little as an offensive lineman)
“Yeah, especially when it’s sacks in the back of your legs. For me, I just kind of look at it as what do you want to leave on tape? Obviously, guys got to take a hard look at themselves and challenge themselves to be better.”
He even commented later on it:
If you think I was talking bad ab @JaredGoff16 you are sadly mistaken all we talk ab is how to make this team better.

I don’t think there’s a mountain here. IMO it’s all molehill.
…
January 2, 2017 at 2:48 pm #62219sanbaggerParticipantI think I would be more willing to believe that, if he didn’t state it twice. Repeating oneself is for emphasis.
In todays technological world NFL players are taught to deal with media relations….I look at his rebuttal tweet as damage control, as I said earlier.
Now, I don’t look at this as a mountain either…I just think Saffold was out of line with that comment…continuing the loser mentality…that’s what needs to change around Ram land.

I know, I read his retraction.
January 2, 2017 at 4:22 pm #62236znModeratorI know, I read his retraction.
I didn’t take it as a retraction. I think it’s a clarification.
I took his original comment as non-dissing the first time I read it. I knew what he was doing and anyone who read ALL the player post-game comments could see that virtually the entire team was talking that way about everyone including themselves. Time to do it, no more promises, be accountable, action is what’s needed talk is empty.
Again, I think there’s more molehill here than mountain.
