i thought this was a feel good story at a time when there hasn’t been much to cheer about.
england has agreed to pay its citizens 80% of their salary if they have been furloughed from their workplace.
liverpool football club decided to furlough their non-football employees in order to take advantage of this while topping off the remaining 20%. this, however, was met with criticism particularly from liverpool fc fans saying that a club of their stature and the profits they’ve earned should be able to cover all wages of non-football employees which would have amounted to not even 2 of their highest paid players. the owners (who are led by american john henry and fsg) have capitulated and reversed their decision and will pay the employees all of their salary.
i thought that was pretty cool.
