Here is an example of why you should be grateful that you aren’t grading essays today:

Barkley on the OJ thing, and other stuff.    I dont agree with Charles’ politics;  he often strikes me as a bit of a rightwing libertarian.    But i do find him interesting in many ways.

Rotten Tomatoes 300 best films of all time.   Fwiw.   (Not sure how their algebra works, since movies with 100 percent rankings are below some in the 90s.)

Yeah, that algebra is definitely sus. They have Top Gun: Maverick in the top 10.

Nice story but I doubt that it’s true. It’s hard to believe a hospital large enough to perform life-saving surgeries wouldn’t have any O Neg blood. If they didn’t you wouldn’t get it from a small child. There’s a reason why blood donors are required to weigh at least 110 lbs.

I can’t think of a single good reason for these to exist. I can think of a couple of dark reasons.

The most obvious is that people are influenced by the “herd.” The second reason would be that any AI profile could operate as a “magnet.” Float ideas out there, collect certain kinds of reactions from people, and compile the data.

Fucking hell. MLB is seeking Trump’s opinion on integrity?

I’ll just be out back consulting with wolves on how they view veganism.

    From quora:

B.B. King clears on the story behind this:

“When Elvis showed up, he was already a huge star. This was back in the 1950s, so for a young white guy to walk into an all-Black event took real courage. I think he was showing where he came from, and he seemed proud of it. After the show, he made sure to take photos with me and treated me with great respect. He used to tell people I was one of his musical influences. I don’t know if that’s true, but I liked that he gave Memphis credit for shaping his music.

In 1972, Elvis helped me land a good job at the Hilton Hotel. He was performing in the main room, but he made a call to get me a spot in the lounge. Every night it was packed. Elvis fans came from all backgrounds, but they all shared a love for great music. They were always a good crowd.

Most nights after our shows, I’d head up to his suite. I’d bring my guitar, Lucille, and we’d sing together or take turns. That was how he liked to relax.

Here’s a little secret. We were like the first Blues Brothers—Elvis knew more blues songs than most musicians do. Some nights, it felt like we sang every single one. What I’m saying is that even in the 1970s, hanging out with him at the Hilton, Elvis never lost his manners, his respect, or his love for all kinds of music. And I really admired that.”

I did not see that coming.

I wonder what Sui Juris Ram would make of this.

Actually as it happens I’ve heard this concept before. Mastering fire and so cooking food gave us more and more easily consumed nutrients, thereby providing the energy we need to power larger brains.

from Why Fire Makes Us HumanCooking may be more than just a part of your daily routine, it may be what made your brain as powerful as it is: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/why-fire-makes-us-human-72989884/

Human beings evolved to eat cooked food. It is literally possible to starve to death even while filling one’s stomach with raw food. In the wild, people typically survive only a few months without cooking, even if they can obtain meat….Cooked food…is mostly digested by the time it enters the colon; for the same amount of calories ingested, the body gets roughly 30 percent more energy from cooked oat, wheat or potato starch as compared to raw, and as much as 78 percent from the protein in an egg.

In essence, cooking—including not only heat but also mechanical processes such as chopping and grinding—outsources some of the body’s work of digestion so that more energy is extracted from food and less expended in processing it. Cooking breaks down collagen, the connective tissue in meat, and softens the cell walls of plants to release their stores of starch and fat. The calories to fuel the bigger brains of successive species of hominids came at the expense of the energy-intensive tissue in the gut, which was shrinking at the same time—you can actually see how the barrel-shaped trunk of the apes morphed into the comparatively narrow-waisted Homo sapiens.

    It’s fascinating.

But I see you avoided mention of Sui Juris Ram, who, as I recall, used to let his chicken start to spoil before he ate it. Raw.

Then, without warning, he quit posting.

He posted with us only about a year. On the Rivals board before it went to shit. He ate nothing but raw food, and let his meat spoil a little bit because that’s the way the cavemen did it, so that’s what is best evolutionarily-speaking.

Left a bigger impression on me than on you, obviously.
