Jim Thomas Talks Rams Coverage After Relocation, ‘Strange’ Rams Park Environment
Brendan Marks posted on January 20, 2016 12:30
Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch joined The Hollywood Casino Press Box on Tuesday, a week after the NFL voted the Rams would relocate to Los Angeles.
We typed up some excerpts from the interview, which you can listen to in full below:
On writing about the Rams after the move:
“It’s still kind of uncharted territory. I think we’ll still kind of cover the team…Judging by the number of people online…there are a lot of people still reading Rams stories. We don’t know how long this will go on in terms of people here still being interested in the Rams.”
Do you know the next time you’ll try to cover the Rams on the field?
“There’s still some kind of (off the filed / relocation stories) we’re working on. We’re working on a big project for Sunday’s paper, kind of a last look at what went wrong (in losing the Rams). I’ll be at the Super Bowl and I’ll be at the Combine.”
On Fisher saying in LA that he had been in meetings and saw stadium renderings:
“He (kept telling us he had no control over it) and doesn’t want to lie to us and hasn’t asked any questions about (the Rams’ future). That’s been the consistent message when the subject has come up. Then at the rally in Inglewood…(he said he had been at meetings where he looked at designs). This is the coach who told me the day before they traded Sam Bradford that they weren’t going to trade Sam Bradford. What can you say?”
Are you at Rams Park?
“I was out there last week and it was a little strange. Almost all the desks in the media room are cleaned up. Not a lot of vehicles in the parking lot. I can see the hallway on the first floor, and once in a while I could see people walking away with boxes. I think there’s a lot of people still wondering if they’d be back.”
“When you talk about the sales and marketing people…would you want any of those people (in LA)? It’s a different market. I wouldn’t think they’d be invited. And there’s a group of people that just don’t want to go, that are attached to St. Louis for one reason or another.”

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

January 24, 2016 at 7:55 am #37964GreatRamNTheSkyParticipantbnw you are going to love watching Rams games at 3:00 in the afternoon on Sundays. Just think, you’ll have the whole day pretty much to do whatever and you can still catch your favorite team.

January 24, 2016 at 8:15 am #37966GreatRamNTheSkyParticipantInteresting that Cusomano calls his show the “Hollywood Casino”. Hollywood Park has a Casino which is being relocated and will remain open just down the street from the new stadium.
Why does a guy in St Louis call his show the Hollywood Casino? Never made sense to me.

Better yet 4 pm for me. I agree it is the best change for me. I hate 1 pm starts. Cracking open some beers after 4 pm is more to my liking and the day is mostly mine which is cool. Can go hiking in the mountains with my son then catch the game on the way home. Looks like I get a minimum of 11 late starts each season so I can probably drop Gamepass too. The sports bar in the next town always has an idle large projection screen room with sound at that time so it might be better in that I used to take my son to the place for years to watch the games but 10 years ago they changed the law where he couldn’t be admitted. Now he says we should go so he can beat me in shuffleboard. No one beats me in shuffleboard.

Because it originates from or is sponsored by the Hollywood Casino.

Where do you live, bnw?
I prefer 4 o’clock starts as well. Now I’ll be able to watch a full day of football. When the Rams lose I don’t feel like watching other games so the 1 o’clock starts meant I usually didn’t get to see the late games.
January 24, 2016 at 10:35 am #37977bnwBlockedI live in Oak Ridge, TN. Used to see Rams fans around but not for some years now. Titans hurting too. More Packers and Colts it seems and now more Panthers too.
I can’t usually watch more than one game unless it is a division team we need to have lose at the end of the season. I’ll only watch tonight because I like the Panthers and don’t like Arians. Other than that its the premiere of the X-Files after the game!
