You might wonder how could he be caught off guard by his firing given the circumstances, but remember Fisher consistently said that Stan understands the situation and that they are on the same page. They probably were for a while but the blowout losses, the dissatisfaction of the fans, the Dickerson saga, the leaking of the extension, etc became too much.

I think it was just the blowout losses and how that had an effect on sales er fans, myself.

But I can tolerate a different opinion. I’ve grown that way.

certainly a lot of it was a pr move.

but while i can’t speak for them, i was getting tired of the fact that there just was no rhythm or rhyme to this offense. after 5 years it just didn’t seem like they had any idea what they wanted to do. that boras hire was just bad.

Part of me wishes they hadn’t fired Fisher – just forced him to get a new OC like Turner or somebody. He may have fired Boras at the end of the season on his own anyway.

That’s mostly because I’m not enamored with any of the potential replacements for Fisher, although Shanahan is growing on me.

I think he had an idea. We started seeing things the last few weeks that we never saw in Fisher previous years…I’m specifically referring to the disagreement he and GW got in to, but not limited to that.

I think everybody on the team had been feeling the heat leading up to the hatchet job.

He is sounding like a guy in search of another shot to run a team…we’ll see.

well that’s the pr part of this move.

some of this came down to being able to sell a new stadium in 2017. i’m curious as to what could have been done with a veteran oc. then again fisher could have done that this year.

what would have been interesting too is if fisher hired shanahan as the offensive coordinator. i believe he interviewed for the job.

i look at the continuity there. he hired a qb coach he worked with at washington. the oline coach was from seattle. worked under cable who worked under gibbs.

there seems to be a shared vision there on the falcons offense. everyone is on the same page.

what can we say about the rams offense? were they just parts slapped together by jeff? did they even come from the same system? does that matter?

Jeff Fisher was caught off guard for being fired on a short week. I don’t think he would be caught off guard if he was fired on Black Monday.

In fairness to Boras the players haven’t executed, …. they got to play football…Jeff Fisher couldn’t get these guys ready to play.

In terms of physical ability, I don’t think the roster is lacking. We have some real athletes with good skills.

Many of them, unfortunately, are dumb as a rock and can’t focus.

Sometimes it may be better to sacrifice some athletic skill for NFL smarts. I hope that’s the direction they go in the future. Bring in smart focused players. They may not win every physical battle but they’ll make up for it with a sharp mental game and the team won’t constantly kill itself.

And bring in a smart leader.
