I use-ta put NFL QBs in a three or four ‘tier’ model. Ya know. I’d have put Brady and Rogers and Big Ben in the elite tier, and then maybe Mahomes and Breez in tier two etc and so forth.
But nowadays i tend to just think in a two-tier model — themz that can probly win a Ring, and themz that probly cant. Two Tiers.
For example, I dont think case keenum can win a ring. Cause he’d have to win three tough games in a row. A divisional playoff game against a tough team. A Conf Championship against a tough team. And a super bowl against a really tough team. And there’s always those two or three tough regular season games on the road you have to win. So thats, like, five or six tough wins you have to get. I dont think Keenum can do that.
Goff can do it, I think. I dont really care if he’s “as good as Mahomes or Brady or whoever”. I only care about whether hes good enough to win those six tough games to get a ring. I think about half the qbs in the NFL can win a ring. It aint an exclusive club. (Flacco, Eli, Matt Ryan would have beaten brady had Atlantas coach not lost his mind, etc) Gotta have the running game, the defense, the special teams and the coaching, of course. And the breaks.
The reason I concluded Goff is in the first tier, is because of what he did with one minute thirty seven seconds left, in the playoffs, against the best team in the NFC, in the most hostile stadium in the NFL:

Yes, it;s clutch stuff.
Goff was still inconsistent as a third year qb but I always thought that you can’t “learn” to be clutch. Gotta have the clutch gene.
Funny. I live in two different worlds; literally: The first is Tri-State (AKA NYC Suburbs). The second is North Shore Boston. I’m usually in North Shore two to three days a week. When I am up there, I tend to listen to Sports Radio 98.5 FM, the Sports Hub. Back in Tri-State, I tend to listen to 660 AM WFAN. Interestingly, driving to MA, I have about 1.5 Hrs of New York Sports Radio, then 1.5 Hrs of Boston Radio. My god, they are a bunch of whiny bitches.
Anyway, the whole point of this rant (I mean, post) is because when Brady put his house on the market, the first question was, “Is there a team that is just a QB away from winning it all who would sign Brady for one year.” And, much to my chagrin, they picked the Rams as the team that is a really good team but has a bad QB.
So, I ask you all, if we don’t win it all this year, and we don’t resign Goff, do we think about a 43 year old Brady??

Nah, McSnead believes in Goff. With good reason.
The only way Goff would regress would be if the Oline fails and Goff gets himself all Bulgerized. That can happen to any QB, of course.
Goff is one of the pieces i just dont worry about anymore.
Now the biggest problem as i see it, is that number 99. The D.Lineman. If he doesn’t play better I think the national media is gonna start using the ‘B’ word — Bust.
I knew he was too small coming out of Pitt.
