    QB Nick Foles to Jets scenario “bears watching”

    The possibility of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Nick Foles ending up with the New York Jets “bears watching” according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com.

    Foles is skipping Rams OTAs, although Rams head coach Jeff Fisher has described the disgruntled QB’s absence as “more of a mutual thing”. The team would love to trade Foles but no team is likely to assume the albatross of a contract the Rams unwisely signed him to before he had ever thrown a regular season pass in St. Louis. The Jets aren’t going to trade for that contract but could be interested if/once the Rams cut the 27-year-old.

    The Jets desperately need to sign a veteran quarterback but are still hoping that quarterback will be Ryan Fitzpatrick. If not Fitz, Foles might be viewed as the next-best option provided that it is the Foles of the Philadelphia Eagles vintage and not the indecisive turnover machine seen with the Rams in 2015. Foles produced a nightmarish seven touchdowns to ten INTs ratio and also lost two fumbles for the Rams in 11 games before finally being benched for the legendary Case Keenum.

    Well, I see that if I want to be better informed on subjects I care nothing about, I should read PAST the headlines:

    “Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick ready to take 1-year deal for $12 million guaranteed: source”

    I just figured…you know…that that is what was offered. Apparently not.

    I would take Fitz over Foles.

    They were way too eager to sign Foles to that contract. They should have been smarter than that. What was the rush?

    IMO? I agree with what they did. AND the contract is just not that bad.

    Last summer, seems to me, they faced 2 possible “poisons.”

    Poison #1 was that they didn’t extend him, and he played well, and was a free agent, and therefore deserved “young starting qb in his 2nd contract” money, which is around 16-18 M a year.

    Poison #2 was that they did extend him, and he flopped, in which case they are on the books for him at about 8 M for 2016 whether they cut/trade him or not.

    Of the 2 poisons, I would always take #2 as the lesser one. Wrap him up as a bargain (for starter’s money) rather than having to face paying him more down the line.

    So I get the reasoning.

    Although I prefer the other approach, there isn’t that much difference. It is mostly that it didn’t work out, not that it was wrong.
