Sean McVay on the end of Jared Goff’s time in LA:

“Could it have been handled better on my end? Absolutely. And I’ll never run away from that. … He deserved better than the way that it all went down. I’ll acknowledge that. And I think he knows that too.

“And I’m not afraid to admit to those things, but I think we’re all better being able to look back on those things. And I do have more appreciation for him as time goes on.”

#Lions QB Jared Goff says the chip on his shoulder from being traded by the #Rams will never leave, he told ESPN.

“I think it’ll never leave me, and I think that’s a good thing.”

Goff and Stafford will match up in what should be an emotional playoff game.

Matthew Stafford discussed his return to Detroit, where he doesn’t expect any special reception as “the bad guy coming to town” now
    .
He also isn’t paying attention to the “jersey ban,” nor does he care what fans wear

McVay saying that really impresses me. I just don’t think many other coaches would own up to that kind of thing. And he’s right. He had his “franchise” QB in-house and basically dismissed him after a few bumps in the road. It’s a lot more complicated than that, and we’ll never know the full story . . . but, that’s the gist of it.

Obviously, it worked out pretty well for the Rams. For both teams, actually. But if we can play the counterfactual game for a bit: If McVay had been 100% in Goff”s corner, and the Rams made all the same moves before the 2021 season, I think Goff would have equaled Stafford’s production and won the ring as well. I’d also bet having those extra picks would have kept the Rams in contention the following season.

But it is what it is. Stafford, when healthy, has been great, and he’s arguably the best QB in the playoffs, at least on the NFC side. McVay learned a ton from all of this, and that can only help our favorite team thrive.

One thing you have to respect about Goff is the way he handled the 3-13 year.  2021.   Rams win Super Bowl with Stafford.

What a kick in the gut.

    And he just keeps working.

Nobody: The sun never sets on the British Empire.

Goff: Wait. I thought someone said it sets in the west.

Yeah, he’s a good chap, old Goff. I hope he strongly rebounds from the most futile performance of his career this Sunday night.

When the trade went down, I remember being against it.

At the time, I thought Goff might still be able to salvage his career with the Rams.

I also didn’t realize how good Stafford was.  To me, he just seemed like a much older, worn-out version of Goff.

But as good as Goff is, Stafford is an order of magnitude better.

Think about the Super Bowl against Cincy and the NFC Championship game against the Bucs prior to that… i don’t think the Rams win either of those games with Goff at QB.
