ModeratorEnh, they were in it, mostly due to the defense, but 2 fumbles killed them
And they were in it toward the end…till a false start screwed up their last drive.
But this was not really a super bowl team IMO. They need another good draft.
But on the bright side, when was the last time the Rams got 16 sacks in 2 consecutive games? I don’t think ever…there was a graphic showing post-season sacks, and Rams are tied for 3rd all time.

ParticipantLast night i re-watched the Rams/Philly game from November and I searched this msg board for the reactions thread to that game…… we all posted that the Rams didn’t measure up to Philly…
Barkley had two huge TD runs in that game..today he had three…. but the Rams measured up today…
I thought they were gonna pull it off, but OL had brain freeze.
Rams need a faster start to the season next year….

ParticipantI agree with everything you said.
It was tough to see them, not be able to get a yard or two when they needed it that many times in one game.
They showed heart in this game, as they did for the whole season.

ParticipantReally encouraged by this young Shula defense. Weird to say after giving up long TD’s on the ground today, but that is how I feel.
The offense was really a limiting factor this year. Today they just didn’t play clean football, yet the defense allowed them to hang around. Kyren’s fumbles really were costly this season.
Karty finished the year well. Hopefully there’s a few years of stability at the kicker position now.
I look forward to seeing how the front office addresses the offense this offseason. Hopefully Stafford is good for one more year. If not that changes my outlook entirely.

ParticipantYep, the fumbles did them in. They still almost won the game.
They played much better against Philly than I thought they would, going in. Agreed, that they need another strong draft, serious attention given to run-stuffers, and a true, shut down corner.
Williams has to work on ball security.
Good season, overall. The Rams can return to LA with their heads held high.

ModeratorI agree with everybody here. This wasn’t a Super Bowl team. They made a game of it, though, and in spite of it all, I was watching in disbelief in the final two minutes as the Rams looked like they might leave us with one of the most indelible playoff memories in their history.
I wonder if Ernest Jones would have been the difference in this game. I wonder if Braden Fiske would have made a difference.
Boy, Philly was living inside the Rams’ jerseys. That secondary is good.
Good game. Good season. Good young defense that can become dominant with a couple of more guys. Good OL. Lots of goodness.

They were 14 yds away from beating the Eagles. Had they won that game, the Rams were going to the Super Bowl. I have no doubt in my mind about that. There’s no way they were losing to Washington in SoFi.
Could they have beaten the Chiefs or the Bills? Who knows, but they already beat the Bills. No matter who they faced in the Super Bowl, I think the game would at least have been competitive.
The Rams are definitely flawed. I agree that they don’t have what most would consider a Super Bowl roster, but with Stafford and being so well-coached I think they were legitimate contenders.

Yes and for a moment there I thought they were going to do it.
But what I meant was, they’re not a super bowl caliber team. They need 2 to 3 added pieces to be that. Maybe in your view that’s just semantics, but it really is how I see it.

ParticipantDisappointing to lose in the playoffs, of course. Duh.
But this is one of these playoff runs that left me feeling excited for the future.
Really outstanding effort, on the road, in the snow, against massive Lines.
I was bracing myself for a blow-out. And if you’d told me Saquon was gonna go over 200 again, I’d have said, the Eagles win by 15. But the Rams played physical all day. A California team playin physical on the road in the snow. Awesome, really.
McVay and Snead had a very good year. Its fun having a great HC and GM and QB. I hope they all stick around a few more years.
What do they need to go further next season? Someone to stop Saquon Barkley for starters.
I think Washington beats Philly, btw. I think Wash is the more complete team, at this point, with the better QB. Surreal to say that about a rookie.

Moderatora flawed team for sure. and i love williams, but his ball security issues drive me crazy. still had a chance at the end though. was there a roughing the passer penalty at the end there? that would have been tough to call there. puka hung in tough and the conditions were bad. coop played like a tough vet. defense was awesome. lots to build on. limmer seemingly whiffed in that block that led to the stafford sack at the end.
they need a corner, an offensive tackle, and another receiver. another defensive lineman.

IMO. In no particular order. Just going down the roster with the secondary at the top down through to the offensive backfield.
* CB: talent/depth
* ILB: run stopper
* DL: either a traditional 3/4 DE with size, or a big/strong NT, or both.
* OT: depth, future
* WR: speed

I agree with this. And that was what I was hoping for.
It was always going to be like successfully calling heads or tails a couple of times in a row, though. There are timelines where the Rams will be SB champions next month.
There’s also a couple of timelines in which they lost to the Vikings.
