Major spoiler: Ned Stark is killed by the Lannisters.

Agreed. Excellent. Spoiler alert, for those who haven’t seen it yet:
That was a fantastic battle scene with Danaerys and the dragon. Loved it. Loved the art work, the pacing, the flow. Very exciting, and the slower parts with Arya and Sansa helped set it up. I also really, really liked the scene in the cave with Jon and Danaerys, and the Children of the Corn, or whatever they’re called.
;>)
Well done. I think the showrunners redeemed themselves this week. Now, next week? So who do you think saved Jaime’s life at the last second?
August 6, 2017 at 11:25 pm #72005wvParticipantWell, my complaint is the same. Basically it all seemed a bit rushed.
Maybe they are planning on selling DVD’s with an ‘extended version’. Ya know.
Not enough, slow, subtle character development anymore. Its all action-movie this season. Which is ok. Its still GOT. But it coulda been special. Instead its just good.
The Tyrian character seems a bit wasted this season. Hes only had one memorable scene and that was the one zn pointed out when he was trying to get J.Snow and Dragon-Lady to understand each other.
I suppose the scene i enjoyed most was Arya vs The Big-Lady. That made me smile.
If i had a mortal dragon, btw, i would make it wear armor and a helmet.

vI can see the complaint about it being rushed. But it seemed like they tried to set up the battle a bit more this time. And I just loved the art work. Danaerys is a very cool biker chick, on that dragon. The protagonist in my latest novel, the ghost — she rode a Harley Dynaglide when she was alive, and may in death, too. But it would be so much cooler if it were a dragon. Just not sure if that works in context . . . .
Great point about the armor. I have no idea why that didn’t occur to me earlier. But it’s so obvious. Make all three of them armor. They have to know now that they’re vulnerable to Cersei’s endless wiles.
Speaking of that, I always wondered why the DC and Marvel superheroes didn’t all wear special suits like Iron Man’s. Take it up a thousand notches and put the Hulk, Thor, Wonder Woman, Spidey and the like in those special suits and who’s gonna stop ’em? Certainly not Lex Luthor.
I shouldn’t have to explain this stuff to them. They should just know, ya know?
August 7, 2017 at 12:58 am #72011znModeratorDragons in armor?
Could they even still fly? As far and as long?
Who would put it on them? (You do it. No you do it.)
For that matter, who would measure them? (Lie still. Just one more minute…).
I realize that we’re serious about reducing injuries to dragons.
But you can go too far. I mean, why not just make them wear dresses.

August 7, 2017 at 7:16 am #72019PA RamParticipantI thought one of the best things was Tyrian, torn emotionally, watching his queen battle his brother. While Tyrian has been loyal to the queen, he also loves his brother. It had to be gutwrenching. I wonder if Tryian may not switch his loyalty at some point. If he may betray the queen.

So you are on record as not caring about dragon concussions.
Ok, fine.
…also….Jamie Lannister should have been ROASTED in that episode. I think the writers went all soft and fuzzy. Now they dont wanna kill cool-characters anymore.

vI think what we’ll see next week is the intro of the Game of Thrones/DC Cinematic Universe. The former Khal Drogo is now Aquaman and will rescue Jaime. The Dothraki turned on him. He’ll turn on the Dothraki.

vHope not. I think we’ve seen enough of Jaimie as a prisoner.

vYes.
Oh I also wanted to add.
The reason the Lannisters and Tarleys didn’t look as good against the Dothraki is because they were in the process of moving.
Moving takes a lot out of an army. They just weren’t in sync.
Plus of course it was a road battle.
And Dickon Tarly was a rookie.

With the Dothraki horde bearing down on them the fact that the Lannister army didn’t turn and flee en masse when the dragon appeared over the horizon speaks well of them.
Jamie is at the bottom of a lake wearing about 50 lbs of armor. I doubt his ultimate fate is to drown but it’s not like he had a chance to fill his lungs with air before he hit the water. And the lake seems conveniently deep considering he was knocked off his horse at the shore line.
Why did Sansa seem upset at seeing how proficient Arya was with the sword?

Where did she learn it? Sansa has to wonder. And, there’s “the list.” Bran confirms the list is real.
Last she saw Arya she was a little girl. Now she’s this spooky trained assassin who can beat Brienne one on one.
It;s like you have a kid brother who was all innocence when you last saw him and he turns up years later with tattoos and a sports car, picks his teeth at lunch with a stilleto, and asks you if you like 9 MMs or regular 38s, then pulls out a fat roll of 100s to pay for lunch (“I’ll get this.”) When you complain about your mean district manager at work, he calmly lights a cigar and says “you know things like that can be fixed.”

That’s along the lines of what I assumed. I saw Arya’s besting of Brienne, and I noted the permanent smirk that Little Finger wears, but then I turned away to address our dog and his squeaky toy so I missed Sansa’s reaction. My wife said something like, ‘wow, Sansa looked upset’. I said that she was probably just mourning Arya’s lost innocence but my wife thought she looked more angry than sad. Then she said she wondered if Sansa was worried about being upstaged by her little sister. My wife is convinced that Sansa will slip into the dark side. It’s residue from the first episode when Sansa told Little Finger that she learned a lot from Cerci.

I didn’t see angry. More like just spooked out. I don’t think she’s sad, or is supposed to be sad, I just see her as freaked. I don’t see Sansa slipping into the Dark Side. None of the Starks will. That thing about learning from Cerci was just supposed to set her up as having some conflicts with Jon. And that’s just because it’s GOT and nothing is supposed to be easy.

Spooked out is the perfect phrase for it. It was a mix of emotions and spooked out covers the mix pretty well.
Sophie Turner has done some fine acting with just an expression. Everyone remembers the Sansa ‘smirk’ when Bolton got himself et by his dogs.
She’s good at nonverbal acting. Facial expressions.
Dinklage is good at that too.

vShe was 15 when she started playing Sansa in season one.
I am not interested in the acting ability here on the next one, just the fun contrast betwee Bran as Bran, v. the actor who plays him:

While the latest Game of Thrones episode is considered by fans to be one of the HBO’s greatest to date, one actor has noticed a dip in his popularity ever since it aired.
Wry sellsword Bronn (Jerome Flynn) found himself at the heart of the climactic Loot Train Battle which saw Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) descend upon Lannister forces while sat atop her fire-breathing dragon. Fearing for his life, Bronn somehow managed to work Qyburn’s Scorpion weapon designed to take down the creature, firing an arrow direct into Drogon in the process.
Flynn, whose character has always proved popular among fans, told HBO in an interview that the moment has seen opinion change.
“I spent weeks on that sequence, but I was on the edge of my seat, the adrenaline was running – they really nailed it,” Flynn said of the action sequence, quipping: “Although since the day the battle aired, I’ve been a little unpopular, I have to say. My postman won’t speak to me because I shot the dragon.” No one messes with Daenerys’s dragons.
Actor and former chart-topper Flynn has appeared in the series since its first season.
