    FootballOutsiders 2015 projections…

    Many know I like these guys a lot and read their site weekly. Like PFF, it’s one data point, but their process and projections usually play out pretty well as far as offensive, defensive and special teams rankings over the course of the season. They weed out a lot of noise and garbage stats to rank players by position more accurately.

    So…. take a look at this. Not saying I agree but they have the Rams 5th overall (offense 17th, defense 4th, special teams 7th) and a 47% chance at the playoffs.

    The last three years the Rams have finished ranked 18th (2014), 14th (2013) and 15th (2012) in their overall rankings.

    I dont really understand the algebra there;
    the Rams are ranked 5th out of 32 teams,
    but the “mean win” count is only 8.8.
    What is a ‘mean win’ ?

    Arizona is only ranked 23 btw.
    Seattle is number one.
    SF is 21.

    my guess is it relates to the division they’re playing in as well as strength of schedule overall. in an easier division, their mean win should go up and their playoff chances as well.

    playing against the number one team in seattle will do that.

    atlanta for example has some pretty weak teams in their division thus increasing their chances of winning and making the playoffs.
