Based on what I have seen this year–4 PS and 3 season games–there is no reason to expect anything other than a fairly heavy loss tomorrow.
The defense has shown nothing like the kind of discipline it will need to significantly contain the Philly offense.
Our offense has shown promise, but I doubt they are ready to win a shootout.
All my perceptions and conditioned reflexes tell me to expect a dismal failure tomorrow.
And now for the but.
I think of the Indy game last year. I’m not asserting or overdoing any parallels. Except the fact that a Fisher team CAN suddenly assert itself. It’s been known to happen.
And there is the whole thing about him making adjustments part way into a season. The defense did tighten up some last year, though not I think as much as people assume.
So, I dunno … it COULD happen.
But I wouldn’t bet on it without damn good odds.
By virtue of the absurd ...
September 29, 2014 at 12:58 am #8666JackPMillerParticipantCould our game next week against the Eagles be like last year when we blew out the Colts in Indy? Just wondering, if we have that inside us.
September 29, 2014 at 7:30 am #8668PA RamParticipantI think the Rams have a great chance of winning next week—IF Greg Williams isn’t completely outsmarted by Chip Kelly(a thought that scares me).
The Eagles are very beatable–even at home.
And coming off a bye week with extra preparation time–no excuse. The Rams have to win that game.

September 29, 2014 at 10:57 am #8672GreatRamNTheSkyParticipantIf AD plays QB this coming Sunday I could see the Rams putting up a lot of points on a very questionable Eagles defense. I mean isn’t that one kid playing starting cornerback for them one of the Rams castoffs from the Spags era?
Eagles have lapses on defense. Not sure why but they do. Might be a by product of the Eagles offense??
Anyways the point being this could be a high scoring affair as neither team is anything to write home about on defense but both can move the ball and score.

from either team.To state the obvious,
the Rams OLine will have to create
holes for Stacy if the Rams
are to have a chance in hell.w
vOctober 2, 2014 at 7:46 pm #8911nittany ramModeratorThe Eagles are in a bit of disarray themselves given their o-line issues. I think the Rams can win provided their d-line begins to live up to their billing. My confidence is bolstered by the Rams history of becoming more cohesive under Fisher after a bye.
The Rams front seven may not be as good as they were hyped to be in the offseason, but they are much better than they’ve played up to now. They are bound to break out eventually, right? This would be a good week to do so.

Well, the hyped-DLine
was the one that included
a healthy Chris Long.w

vChris Long is a good player, but I don’t think he is the sole reason the Rams d-line is under performing. Certainly there’s a dropoff in talent from Long to Hayes but it’s not a HUGE dropoff, right? This is (or at least should be) a really good defensive line, with or without Long.

October 3, 2014 at 1:08 am #8930PA RamParticipantHopefully the Rams offense controls the ball and slows down the game. Kelly won’t be able to help himself. He likes fast break football. He won’t have patience for a slow game. Still, there is pressure locally for Kelly to run the ball more. But the Eagles are 2nd in the NFL in pass attempts, 21st in rushing attempts. Kelly WANTS to throw the ball.
Of course–looking at the Rams 30th ranked rush defense is as good an incentive as any–especially if he believes the big play run is there–which it has been with the Rams this year. But if the Rams stuff McCoy early I don’t see Chip having the patience to stay with it. He wants points–fast. He wants to wear down your team–fast pace.
We’ll see if the Rams are up to the challenge.
I think the Rams find a way this week.

I had a conversation with somebody this morning and the Whiners were reading Nick Foles audible signals. I was told when he audibled and put his hand up over his head, it was a run.
When they went to 11 and 21 personnel the Whiners stayed in their base defense and focused on the run and gave Foles the pass. He had some guys open too and missed badly. Foles doesn’t have the wide open guys running as freely this season and his accuracy has been suspect.
I think he’s like 1-12 over 20 yards. (note from me: that was from memory so I looked it up…he’s actually 1 for 14 over 31 yards, and 4 of 31 over 21…in the 21-30 range, he’s 3 of 17)
There is a LOT for the Rams to pick up from the Whiner game. No D-Jax so now you can drop a safety down. But I suspect the Eagles will be looking in the middle of the field against the Rams.

I will tell you what.
If they win?
I say…pie for everyone.
October 4, 2014 at 3:58 pm #9044wvParticipantYeah, i don’t see any reason to
expect a win on the Road against
a well-coached team. But Philly turned the ball over
four times in their close loss
to the 49ers — maybe they will
be generous again 🙂One thing we know for sure-
Eugene Simms will probly
be called for a phantom penalty.w

October 4, 2014 at 4:12 pm #9046PA RamParticipantNot only do I expect the Rams to win…I backed it up by wearing my Rams t-shirt to work on Friday and smack talking the Eagles fans.
Oh, I said some things I’d live to regret come Monday–IF the Rams should lose.
But of course, that won’t happen.
I made sure that everyone knew how I felt about the game by going out of my way to casually “bump” into those I didn’t see right away.
“Oh…hi, Phil. Didn’t see you there. Did you know that the Rams are kicking the Eagles ASS this weekend? Did you know that? Oh–you weren’t aware of that? Well–write it down. And write down who said it so you remember on Monday. They are kicking their ass in THEIR house. And…uh, have a nice day.”
So it will not be pretty for me if the Eagles win on Sunday.
Hopefully my rant was fueled by cool analysis of the situation and not raw emotion.
I am pretty pumped up for the game.
GO RAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

October 4, 2014 at 5:41 pm #9047sdramParticipantI’m thinking the Rams OL will show up rested and ready and they’ll be able to control the ball some and compete to win the whole 4 quarters. But, me of little faith thinks the Eagles will likely prevail at home. However, since I’m typically only right about the Rams 34.2% of the time they still have a good shot at winning.
My current expectations are they won’t or shouldn’t get blown out much if at all anymore. They have talent but it needs to grow up and play to win.

GO RAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Well, since the Refs cheated so much for Dallas
in the Ram game, we must conclude the League
wants Dallas to win the division. So, it
may be that they will cheat for the Rams
this Sunday, and they will penalize
the Eagles numerous times for holding
Eugene Simms in critical situations.w
vOctober 4, 2014 at 7:10 pm #9074InvaderRamModeratormy guess is the offense does really well. i don’t know how the defense does, but i think this offense runs all over that philly defense.
