On the NFL Net in studio pregame show with Mike Irvin Marshall and Kurt W, the topic was getting and utilizing extra motivation in a game and does that help etc.

Irvin’s anecdote was about how the Niners beat them in humiliating fashion one year in the playoffs which the Cowboys espeically Irvin used to chew on all the next season when they won a SB.

Warner and Faulk described in detail the following:

Back in 2001, the Dolphins were coming to town bragging that they were going to lock down the Dome and throw away the key. The result was a 42-10 Rams track meet win, which Marshall and Kurt laughed about how Martz used that to pre-game motivate the guys.

Marshall then says at one point after a long run he walks up to the Dolphin defender Daryl Gardener who made the lock down/throw away comment and, pointing to the scoreboard says basically “you sure you want to lock yourself in here and throw the key away now, dude???”

Both Warner and Faulk’s expressions were lit up and smiling talking about it. After the game Martz put little gold keys on plaques and gave them to all the Rams players.

I happened to catch that during the Sunday’s pregame show. I guess I was lucky I did, because I usually do not watch pregame shows on the Sunday, but when I do it’s typically the ESPN Pre game Sunday show over the NFL Network show……

Warner noted that he typically didn’t single out specific games for extra motivation…, but he did mention and got into detail for this 2001 Miami game….

I wonder if Marshall was not there if Warner would have mentioned to have any extra motivation to play the Rams when he was started QB for Arizona?
