    The rams would miss out.

    Division winners would be:
    Cardinals
    Cowboys
    Lions
    Panthers

    Wildcards would be:
Packers and Eagles (5-2 and 5-1)

49ers and Seahawks wold miss the playoffs.

…if the rams win on the road
in Kansas City, i think we have
    to consider them wildcard
    contenders.

So, i’m in favor of winning,
    myself.

    I’m thinking maybe they can
    fake a fake-punt, and then
    do a drop-kick.

Can they beat a solid team on the road
    this year?

Now would be a good time.

    At least we know RayRay
wont be penalized in this one.

Rams are 0-5 against KC since moving to St. Louis, kind of surprising. Maybe the law of averages will kick in.

Who is Jake Long going up against?
    Is it a good passrusher?

    I’m gonna start asking that
    every week.

The Chiefs have a former-probowler who has seven sacks, btw :

I’ll tell you what I think the challenges will be for the Rams this week. I’ll make some sense, and I’ll be dead wrong about everything.

    Anyway, here we go…

Andy Reid teams are the best in the NFL at running screens. I expect to see several against the Rams this Sunday. Pretty good chance one of them hits for a very big play.

Alex Smith is a dink and dunk, West Coast, QB. He’s nothing special, but he’s good at running that offense. It took him 6 years to be above average, but Smith doesn’t make a lot of mistakes.

The Chiefs wide receivers are nothing special either, but the Rams secondary is prone to giving up a big play. 3rd and 4, no problem, that’s a stop. 3rd and 17, that’s a problem.

Alex Smith has been sacked 16 times in 6 games. That’s nothing to be proud of. The Rams D line should get a couple of sacks.

Smith can run. He’s way better at scrambling than people realize. That does not bode well for the Rams.

Charles or Davis will probably hit at least one big run. Could be a TD. The Rams will stuff the run game all day, then give up a 60 yard jaunt. Typical.

    Knile Davis is a fumbler.

They’re about a 50/50 run/pass ratio team. The Rams gotta stop the run.

The Chiefs run D is nothing special. 4.7 yards per attempt.

The Chiefs have 17 sacks. Their pass rush is not to be toyed with.

    Seconday? Not bad.

My main concern is the Rams coming out flat. It’s a road game, after a big win against Seattle. KC is gonna smell blood in the water pretty quick if the Rams don’t come out fighting for their lives.

The Rams can’t ease into this street fight. 🙂

    My guess, Rams lose 24-17.

Well, i dunno. If they are the SOSAR
    then yeah.
    If, by chance, something else
    is emerging, then maybe not.

    I dunno.

They seemed awfully jittery early on
in Philly. It will be interesting
to see if they are ready for Kansas City.

Denver is a 9.5 favorite against the 5-2 Chargers.

    Seattle 5 over Carolina
    Arizona 2.5 over Philly

    Saints favored over Green Bay.

No-one seems to be picking the Rams this week.
Folks seem to think its the Same Ole Rams.
Sure would be nice if the Rams
    took a giant leap forward.

    Seems about right.

One win does not a season make–especially one that involved some magic tricks. Hey–it’s great, I’m happy to get the win. But I just don’t know what would make me thinks the team has turned some sort of corner. I still see a team that can implode at any moment.

I expect the Chiefs to win this one.

    I’m hoping they don’t.

    Surprise me, Rams. Surprise me.

Yup. Not expectin a win, either.

It would be nice if AustinD showed
poise and composure early on, unlike
    the roadtrip to Philly.

And it would be nice if Tre didnt fumble.

And it would be nice if the defense
    stopped the Run.

And it would be nice if the Refs
    didnt decide the game.

Well, I do expect the Rams to win.

But see, the difference is that unlike you two, I’m a fan of the Rams.

I don’t simply pretend to root for the Rams on this message board while secretly delighting in their missteps. I don’t feign pride in the Rams’ victory over the Seahawks while lovingly casting my gaze upon the Kansas City Chiefs like you two do.

So forgive me if I’m not shocked that you two have no faith in the Rams this week. The real fans have enough faith for both of you. Remember this when your beloved Chiefs are limping off the field bruised and bloodied around 4pm EST this Sunday.

That was lame. I thought it would post the picture. I shouldn’t have so much trouble doing that every time. It was a picture of Stratego, a board war game, as you all know. Very clever. I’m sure it’s been done.

    Another 3-4 defense

Rams have had their issues in pass protection against 34 defenses.

We all remember I’m sure the sacks and fumbles that occurred in Philly against their 3-4.

The Rams were very weak on the edges against the Niners with their 3-4. The tight ends were porous in pass pro and overall they gave up 5 sacks. Tre Mason was problematic as well.

Well here we go again with probably the best 3-4 defense of the bunch.

Shotty is going to have to dial up another great game and keep these guys off balance or it could be a very long day.

Play action on early downs, 3 step drops, swings, screens and counters should be an ample part of the gameplan.

Please give Jake Long help and if te or back is in the pattern…CHIP!!

Did you fix that? Or was I wrong about doing it wrong? Either way, count me among the real Ram fans, the ones who know the Rams will win this Sunday in KC. My shopping list: 1) a Kansas City baby; 2) a Kansas City bottle of wine. Rams 24-17 victors.

We are 2-4 and that means we have a major uphill battle to respectability. A loss means we are officially done for the year- cant be 2-5 and come back from that. A win means 3-4 and not out of it. Now odds are we aren’t going to the playoffs this year, but at the same time, you never know if a young team gets on a roll and gets confidence- we do have enough talent if things start clicking- namely the D. Get CL back in 2 weeks or so and that could be huge to a team on a roll. Confidence is a great thing. If we can somehow win in KC ( I would say is a long shot but possible) and the youngins like GR, Mason, Gaines, Donald etc continue to get better- Tavon starts going off, and get CL back– man O man- 9-7 is suddenly possible. Now admittedly I am a pie in the sky type-glass half full type of guy- but if we can beat a Seattle team, we can compete with anyone (well besides maybe Den). Have to have this one though to make anything else possible. We regress, and have mistakes and turnovers etc- we are officially done. This is a must win game- no question. Here’s hoping we get up for this one, build on the big win last week and pull off the upset in KC. That would be a big win.

[BUT]…hurt corners only make it worse. Dline has to dominate and we have to run the ball well- two tall tasks. Probably have to have some big plays on ST and may need a turnover or two all the while playing nearly mistake free football. I do think it is winnable- but I think it is going to be a very tough one to win. Need it though- no way around it. If we do win, the confidence could be sky high and that could be a great thing for this young team.

I actually think the Rams SHOULD win this game.

From what I can gather, the Chiefs have a suspect OL, poor WRs, and a limited QB.

If the Ram D plays with discipline, they OUGHT to be able to stuff that offense. Consider a point made on the R A podcast:

The Rams have done extremely well against a long string of superb RBs this year. They stuffed Lynch last week, even in the 2nd half. I find it hard to believe that these KC RBs behind a bad OL are a bigger threat than Lynch was.

Which means that they have to contain a limited RB who runs OK, but not as well as RW. And we stuffed RW for a half.

It’s just a matter of discipline. If this defense plays with discipline for 4 quarters, they’ll hold KC to >14 points.

Meanwhile, this offense has put up points against SEA and SF defenses. I don’t see why we can’t score, say, 23 points against KC.

    We SHOULD win this game.

But I doubt we will. I doubt we will have enough discipline to do it. I’d bet on KC, but not much, because the Rams have the horses to win comfortably.

By virtue of the absurd ...

Is it just me, or are there others who think that Tavon Austin is more of a hindrance to the offense than a benefit? He is a tremendously talented player, but maybe his particular skill set doesn’t fit with what the Rams are trying to be offensively. Or maybe the Rams braintrust just doesn’t know how to best utilize him or perhaps it’s something else but there seems to be some sort of disconnect there. The offense will be motoring along one series and then the next they put Tavon in and try to get him involved and things just sort of bog down. Last year against the Colts we saw what he could be and he flashed a few times in other games but 6 games into this season he’s shown nothing.

    I don;’t think that, personally.

Though you do have a point–Seattle ran out of ways to use Harvin.

The difference is, though, that Schott is ALWAYS manufacturing gimmick plays.

One of my things about the Rams is that a lot of people don’t have a clear picture of what Schott does.

Well one thing he does is to always manufacture gimmick plays.

When Tavon was out, for example, COOK ran the reverses and so on.

And when Watts played, he was running Tavon plays.

So I think it’s much more of the offense than a lot of people realize. JUst my IMO.

Lots of questions for this game. Same as the other games but in a new framework. Are they progressing or was Seattle one of those “every 21st game the Rams beat someone” games.

    * can they play with a rookie secondary
    * have they re-wired Ogletree
    * this game ought to let the DL do some damage
    * can they contain the edge or will Charles set a world’s record for yards per carry
    * the Rams OL + Mason and the other backs could be a strong suit.
    * who is Austin Davis
    * can they neutralize the KC pass rush
