Well there’s a lot to say but IMO it gets down to this–given the circumstances, including injuries, they played better than we had a right to expect.

Proud of the way they battled given all the adversity.

I hope Puka, Noteboom, and Avila are able to play next week.

Why did McVay take a Dan Campbell stupid pill midway through the 2nd qtr and go for  it on 4th and 4 on the Detroit 23?  You shouldn’t do stupid shit like that…

    WTF?

Rams fought hard, had chances to put the game away and just couldn’t do it in regulation…

    RAMS 0-1

    BTW, 17th 4th qtr comeback for Jared…

And if I remember right, Lions scored after getting the ball back on downs. So a 10 point swing.

I didn’t expect the Rams to win this game back when I assumed that they’d be relatively healthy for it. Hopefully they will have a healthy offensive line at some point this season.

The Rams played better than I expected them to play, given the OL. And I am heartened by the defense giving up only 20 (regulation) to a fully healthy Detroit at home in their first battle action with no Aaron.

I did not need to see Puka, Avila, and Noteboom carted off. This is going to be a good, exciting season, if the Rams don’t spend it on the IR.

The Rams just had too many key injuries. Crazy that so much happened in the first game.

If the Rams can hang in there were the Lions, fighting so much adversity, they can hang in there with anyone once they get healthy again.

Well I’m no Baldy but from what I saw Verse stood out more than Fiske. Limmer did okay but he was part of a line that couldn’t hold up on pass pro on longer plays (3rd n 10 etc) and which couldn’t open the running game. I just think Fiske and Limmer were thrown to the fire and this says nothing bad about them. Verse standing out is kind of a big bonus–PFF ranked him 6th in the league in pass rush win rate. That’s pretty impressive coming right out of the gate.

I only saw the 15 minute highlights on youtube, so, I dunno much.

Looked like the DLine got handled by the Lion Oline.   Did it?

    Injuries.  Sigh.

I think the Lions are a top-3 team.   Up there with the 49ers and Chiefs.    Rams have a chance to be a very good team.

But of course, injuries could derail everything.   Duh.

During the regular game, Rams front 7 was getting pressure. It was actually impressive.

The impression of the Lions OL dominating the Rams DL came from overtime. In OT, the Lions just ran the ball down the field. I think they passed the ball once. It was a great OL going against a young, smallish, and tired Ram front 7.

It is hard to fault the Rams for that game. They had 3 subs playing on the OL then 1 of those 3 had to be replaced because he got injured. Nacua, Avila, and Noteboom had to leave the game. Rams made some big mistakes–but they played their hearts out and at one point took the lead against a very good team that was playing without injuries in their home stadium. There’s no such thing as a moral victory but there is a such thing as a noble defeat.

From an article on CBS about rookies.

more along the lines of what zooey posted just before this post.

    From https://www.turfshowtimes.com/2024/9/11/24241853/rams-stock-up-stock-down-blake-corum-cooper-kupp?utm_source=twitter&utm_content=turfshowtimes&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialflow

    EDGE Jared Verse

The Rams rookie first round pick looked the part against the Lions. There is reason to believe that he will be an impact presence on the edge throughout the season. Verse had six pressures with a 26.1 percent pressure rate. It’s the fourth highest pressure rate in Week 1 by a rookie since 2018.

Verse needs to do better containing the edge, but that will come with time and experience. The most important thing is that the defense has a player that it can rely on to get to the quarterback when needed.

still too early to tell but so encouraged to read that about jared. he did show up during the game a lot. glad to see tangible stats that prove it.
