    That was thoughtful.

Though I notice you didn’t lobby for the return of the old AFL red white and blue footballs. Or was that the NBA? (I get confused.)

Sorry, zack. I PM’d ya, but I wanted to post it prior to the kickoff.

The red, white and blue balls were the ABA… think Dr. J.

I do hope this lives on a bit and can be a reference point for conversations…

I know, ABA. I was playing goofy there.

On “Game Viewing Experience,” I am guessing that the math works out better for the league the way things are right now.

Right now, they get broadcast money from networks and from DirectTV. Networks get their money from advertisers; Directv gets it from subscribers.

You are talking about eliminating the middleman: networks/DirectTV.

Fine, except your customers need to be able to stream live feeds.

And I don’t know this for a fact – merely guessing – but I doubt there are enough potential customers with internet connections sufficient to stream the games, and to thus exceed revenues that they get by including the middlemen. At this point.

GamePass? No, that’s just not acceptable.

What is your beef against GamePass?

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

    – Too expensive.
    – Not enough value for what’s offered.
    – Games aren’t live (which is f’n nuts)
    – Games can still be blacked out.
    – No single game purchase option.
    – No free content. MLB.com At Bat app has tons of content that is AUGMENTED by the MLB.tv premium service.

Note, I’m not asking the NFL to really GIVE anything away, but rather to look at pricing a full suite of innovative digital offerings that include fans that can’t afford to go to games. It’s one thing to charge a premium for NFL licensed gear, tickets to games, etc. But if fans just cannot watch the teams they want to watch in a legitimate fashion, then they’ll foster “fan foci” and when those teams aren’t winning, the fair weather fans who only watched those teams because the barrier to watch was so low will leave. They won’t necessarily look for the next team, but rather they may look for the next “thing”.

And when the NFL and big media negotiate huge contracts over growth in single digits, they have to be cognizant of the potential to so quickly lose fans if they aren’t vigilant.

Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.

The games are archived so why would a blacked out game be a problem? I agree it is expensive but the TV I have allows viewing from the computer.

Direct TV paid a premium for exclusivity within the US. Viewing live on mobile devices might be something they have in the contract and perhaps with the ATT partnership or merger it will happen?

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.
