Will the Dodgers pony up and give Kenley Jansen a Aroldis Chapman type contract… The Lakers loss to the Rockets and Luke’s thoughts on playing without Russell and Clarkson. Key thinks the Rams need a qualified offensive coordinator and crusty QB mentor. The guys NFL Picks Against the Spread. Albert Breer from MMQB, who broke the story of the now public rift between the Rams GM Les Snead and coach Jeff Fisher comes on and spills the beans between the two and what may happen next; the guys react.Albert Breer starts at about 24:10.
December 8, 2016 at 8:40 pm #60575AgamemnonParticipantDecember 8, 2016 at 9:21 pm #60578ZooeyModeratorDo we have a video of the Fisher comment about personnel that launched a thousand ships?
I read it, and I don’t see him throwing Snead under the bus, but is there video of that I missed?
Because I’m listening to Breer up there, and it sounds like he is implying that Fisher is putting Bailey and Mason down as personnel office failures which isn’t the read I read it, and which seems absurd.

It is in one of his conference calls. Maybe I can find it.

“We need to do a better job from a personnel standpoint. We’ve had some unfortunate things take place with some high picks in Stedman Bailey and Tre Mason and those kinds of things you don’t anticipate. But we’re moving forward.”
Fisher’s biggest supporter appears to be Rams COO Kevin Demoff, who hailed Fisher as a “leader of men” and gave him a pass for any struggles of the 4-8 team transitioning from St. Louis to Los Angeles. Coincidence or not, Kevin is the son of Martin Demoff, who is Fisher’s agent.
But it is unclear whether Fisher went too far with this week’s comments.
“It pissed me off because I knew it was meant as a shot,” a source told MMQB.com. “You see it under that umbrella — ‘We need to do a better job in personnel.’ OK, but you want everyone to think that you have full control. You can’t have it both ways, and it can’t always be the talent. Look at the roster, 2012 to now. In ’12, Jeff did a masterful job with what he was given. But we’ve gotten more talent, and we’ve gotten worse.”
The Rams have been the picture of mediocrity in Fisher’s four-plus seasons there: 7-8-1, 7-9, 6-10, 7-9 and 4-8 this year. The extension that Fisher signed this week had been agreed upon much earlier, but had not surfaced publicly until Sunday. The timing is awkward as the Rams have been in a free fall since a 3-1 start and calls for his job have reach a fevered pitch.
“It’s always good to have healthy tension between the coach and GM, but that shouldn’t hurt the team or cause finger-pointing,” another club source told the website. “Over five years, [Tuesday] was the first time you saw public comments. That should never happen. … The organization has given them a long leash. And given that they’ve had time, they have to win, and they have to be able to work

Yeah I agree with that. Fisher did not put them down as personnel failures. That’s a complete misread.
The actual quotation:
We’ve had some unfortunate things take place with some high picks in Stedman Bailey and Tre Mason and those kinds of things you don’t anticipate.
I don’t know HOW you misread that statement to be a jab at personnel people.
It means what it says. They took a hit on 2 picks when bad things happened to them. I mean how in the hell do you read that as Fisher blaming Snead for Bailey getting shot.
That’s way, way, way off. Weirdly off.

I thought the same….. You can’t predict the incidents to Stedman and Mason….. They were very decent picks players
December 8, 2016 at 10:10 pm #60584InvaderRamModeratorthinking about it yeah. i think it’s a stretch to take it as him slamming snead.
i’m really just wondering why he would say he had no idea snead signed an extension too, and i haven’t heard or read a convincing argument as to why he would say that when he must have known that he did sign an extension.

Okay, here is the quote I have from somewhere else:
“I’m so busy here, I was honestly unaware he was extended. I’m being honest with you, we’re just working here,” Fisher said. “I look at this as being my responsibility, the win-loss record. We need to do a better job from a personnel standpoint. We’ve had some unfortunate things take place with some high picks in Stedman Bailey and Tre Mason and those kinds of things you don’t anticipate.
The sentences preceding the “We need to do a better job from a personnel standpoint” are pretty important, and you get a different picture of what Fisher is saying with those sentences included.

The speculation I posted elsewhere is this:
Jeff Fisher was trying to emphasize that he is focused on football, and on his job, and not distracted by all the commotion outside the gate, or extensions, or whatever. He is focused on football. And so he told a little stretcher there to help emphasize the point.
I mean, there is no way he didn’t know that.
But I don’t think it had anything to do with Snead in particular, just a guy trying to say, “Hey, I’m doing my job here, m’kay? This other stuff isn’t where my head is.” So he told a stupid fib. But I don’t personally think it was anything more than that.
December 8, 2016 at 10:25 pm #60588AgamemnonParticipanthttp://www.ocregister.com/articles/fisher-737633-snead-rams.html
If the two have a close relationship, Fisher certainly didn’t indicate it Tuesday. Asked twice about his closeness with Snead, Fisher said they “have not had any issues” and “communicate very well.” Then, in the next breath, Fisher said he hadn’t been aware that Snead signed a contract extension.
“I’m so busy here, I was honestly unaware that he had been extended,” Fisher said.
Fisher also didn’t have much to say when asked to evaluate Snead’s tenure as general manager.
“I look at this as being my responsibility, the win-loss record,” Fisher said. “We need to do a better job from a personnel standpoint. We’ve had some unfortunate things take place with some high picks, with Stedman Bailey and Tre Mason and those kind of things that you don’t anticipate. But we’re moving forward.”
Bailey, a third-round draft pick in 2013, was the Rams’ third-leading receiver in 2014 but had his career interrupted last November when he was shot in the head. Mason, a third-round pick in 2014, backed up running back Todd Gurley last season but was arrested in March and essentially is off the team.
Snead, in the radio interview, had praise for the development of rookie quarterback Jared Goff and talked at some length about the Rams offense, which ranks last in the NFL this season in points per game and yards per game.
“Any time you’re where we’re at 32nd, you get frustrated,” Snead said. “Frustration is a good word, but the biggest thing is trying to come back, not only during the game but when you go back and watch film and try to figure out what you need to do to improve.”
This happened Tuesday, the 6th. I think they cut it out of the press conference?
December 8, 2016 at 10:35 pm #60589ZooeyModeratorAh, fuck this.
Fuck this whole thing.
There is so much more smoke here than fire. I don’t know. Maybe there IS something, but so far I haven’t seen any actual EVIDENCE of it. Only a lot of disgruntled people throwing accusations around.
I need a break.

I think it’s not in my nature.
Though admittedly, not everyone sees me that way.
