I find, in my own life, two roads/trajectories have sorta crossed. One trajectory is my faith/interest in humanity or the human-part-of-nature. That one just keeps goin down, down, into the misanthropic abyss. But as that one has gone one way, my interest in and concern for Nonhuman Nature has gone up.
I meet a lot of smart, informed humans who have had exactly the same experience, lately. I keep hearing story after story from people who are disgusted with people, but who have had more and more healing experiences in ‘nature.’
My sister, the evil-wv-ewe has discovered Monarch Butterflies, for example…
Anyway, I keep my eye out for interesting Nature Quotes. I laughed at this one.
=======================
“You New Yorkers will excuse me for missing my barred owls, ruffed grouse, snowshoe rabbits, my grosbeaks and deer. I love what you love too. In the city and in the country there is a simple, underlying basis to life which we forget almost daily….
…..evolution has been a matter of days well-lived, chameleon strength, energy, zappy sex, sunshine stored up, inventiveness, competitiveness, and the whole fun of busy brain cells. Watch how a rabbit loves to run; watch him set scenting puzzles for the terrier behind him. Or a wolf’s amusement at the anatomy of a deer. Tug, tug, he pulls out the long intestines: Ah, Yorick, how long you are! …”
