I expected to loathe “A Star is Born.” I had negative-expectations. Watched it cuz someone else wanted to.
    It was…oh…’grittier’ than i expected.

I must say it hooked me in about five minutes. Wonderful performances (I’d never even seen Lady Ga-Ga before, and I’d never heard of Brad Cooper). Really good cinematography, especially the scenes on stage.

Cooper’s character’s mantra is if you are a performer “have something to say.” Be true to yourself, and authentic, and have something to say, and dont worry about how it is received. Express your truth.

I wanted to be in the conversation with him. I wanted to say, “Yes, good, but it also matters what yer truth is. It matters ‘what’ you say. Just ‘expressing’ yourself is only a first step. A good step, but WHAT you have to say…matters.

Its a sign of a good movie, i think, when ya start wanting to talk to the characters 🙂

…plus, Sam Elliot is in it. So, ya know.

The 1954 version is good too. Judy Garland and James Mason.
