There’s lots of different ways people are seeing this.
In my own view, which is just one among others,I would not be surprised by some up and down inconsistency but even that would be within an upward trajectory. So an upward graph line with some peaks and valleys. And the only reason I even say that is because it would be reasonable for a very young team with a new head coach and a young qb to stumble here and there (heck they already did against Seattle).
So I think that could happen or I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
I do believe in this team and it’s future, even though this could be more of a transition year. I believe in them because it’s clear Whitworth and Kromer make a difference, Gurley has been reborn, Phillips is (IMO) a hall of fame level defensive coordinator, McVay is clearly a very grounded leader and head coach, and Goff just flat out has the arm talent combined with the competitiveness and toughness and mindset for it (he just needs experience). Adding the receivers helped too. That all just looks rock solid real to me.
But it’s not 99. Warner was older and much more seasoned, even if he did not have NFL game experience. Vermeil was craftier, just from experience. As good as Gurley and the Rams receivers are now, they are not quite on the same level of Faulk and Bruce, who were both experienced future hall of famers.
I got the feeling in 99 that that team was in bed with destiny.
This team, I just feel like this is the first year of many good years to come.
Maybe the Goff/McVay Rams never reach the heights of the GSOT Rams, but, I bet they have a longer run than they did. I don’t know HOW good they will get but they WILL be good and for a long time.
