    With whom is Carlin sparring on the Maher panel? I don’t recognize him.

    James K. Glassman (1947-).
    He was the author of Dow 36,000 & other charlatanic books on the Stock Market; one can see why from his “performance” on this Sept. 9th, 2005 program: he equates philosophical & political skepticism with Karl Marx (an irrelevant & ridiculous comparison) and then scoffs at Carlin’s characterization of the American Political System that routinely manufactures consent through deception & propaganda as though Carlin’s outlook was self-evidently wrong.

    He is still alive (as it turns out) and has lived to see his own view of the world buried under the avalanche of recent history. In fact, he probably wouldn’t even remember that he was on this show given how long ago it actually was unless you reminded him.
