    I know what THAT means.

It refers to the classic old line, “mild johnsonville italians in burning fuel storage facilities get charred.”

    If memory serves.

With a name like Johnsonville, you know those Italian sausages have to be great.

The Chargers are missing one of the premiere edge rushers in the game, their starting right tackle, a good young tight end, and Corey Liuget who a couple of years ago was really solid on the interior d-line. He had a foot injury and his stats have been unimpressive the last 2 years so I don’t know what kind of player he is now.

It’s tough to miss all of those players and still compete with one of the best teams in the NFL (which is what almost everyone thinks the Rams are).

I see a game where the Rams have a sizable lead going into the 4th quarter. I also thought the Cards game last week would be a physical, division game that stayed kinda close. Then the Rams went out and blew the Cards away. So what do I know??

Yes! The games is being televised here! Love it!

I see a close game. My biggest fear is Ficken having to make key field goals to win it and he WILL have to make key field goals today. It is the first test of the season and I hope the edge rushers show up today. The linebackers will have to watch those drop off passes to the backs. Their backs are good and can get 1st downs. I look for Gurley to have a big day running the ball.

    Rams:27
    Chargers:24

    Come on

    Ficken!

Z and I are playing around but for anyone who might not know, his pic above and our discussion of it all allude to an old line we used to use about the GSOT Rams–that they would (quote) “smoke the league like sausage in a refinery fire.”

I take that as a line as immortal in its own, different way as things like “from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion” and “We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills” and “all work and no play make Jack a dull boy.”

important game. well. not a crucial game. but it will be telling.

lose and the rams become just another team in non-rams fans’ eyes.

barely win and the rams, and they’ve taken care of business. one of among several contenders.

blow the chargers out, and the hype machine just went over the top. media will be fawning over this team. opposing teams’ fans will seethe.

does it matter? should we care? will it even be accurate?

no. but i do care. i admit. a little bit. i’m a petty man.

also. i’m nervous. i fear that the rams’ outside pass rush will be exposed this game. likewise, i worry that goff doesn’t get the wide open pockets he enjoyed the first two games and regresses a little bit.

i’ll really just be happy with any kind of win.

    ….

but i wouldn’t mind seeing a convincing “statement win”.

With a game this Thursday, the tam may be looking a little ahead, but I believe we will win but not as huge as normal, I see it as Rams 31-Chargers 17
