High praise: #Rams CB Marcus Peters is predicting future Pro Bowls for safety John Johnson
==
I’ve gushed about this before but there’s no stopping me. The Rams ability to find or trade for top DBs is really remarkable.
Obviously Talib and Peters are the top stories, but they found Robey-Coleman for next to nothing, and this year there’s positive training camp talk about both Hill and Peterson (and it’s possible that due to the numbers game, one of them might not make the team). Neither one was drafted.
Plus of course they have Shields. All that’s after losing Tru and Jenkins in the last 2 years.
In terms of people they lost, McLeod and McDonald are both starters. Cody Davis is depth in Jacksonville but is impressing people.
As for the rightfully praised safeties, Johnson obviously fits right into this whole story, every bit as much as Joyner, and the buzz for those 2 is not surprising. That’s a top safety duo for the price of a 2nd and 3rd round pick.
So far this camp Blake Countess is getting some buzz and so is Ramon Richards, though it’s a little early to say what that means. And there’s probably someone I haven’t picked up on yet.
That’s a long list of players acquired in 7 years. (And a lot of them are UDFAs.) I don’t think there’s an equivalent period out there in Rams history, where they added such a long list of first-rate starters plus promising depth in the secondary like this. All without a single first-round pick.
If the cap crunch means they lose Joyner, I don’t worry about it, as good as he is and as much as I like him, because this team is just that good at finding DBs.
